  8.             They're hailing us.

  11.             Open a channel.
  12.                 (beat)
  13.             This is Commander Benjamin Sisko of 
  14.             the Federation Starbase Deep Space 
  15.             Nine.
  16.  
  17.     After a beat, the VIEWSCREEN engages.  A humanoid woman of 
  18.     about fifty APPEARS on the Viewscreen, SELTIN.  She is dressed 
  19.     in simple clothing, and is standing in front of a simple one-
  20.     wall set.
  21.  
  22.     She seems to study our people's faces for a beat before saying 
  23.     anything; her face is kind, with an open countenance.
  24.  
  25.                     SELTIN
  26.             I am Seltin Rakal of Meridian.
  27.  
  28.     Sisko nods a greeting.
  29.  
  30.                     SISKO
  31.             We were studying this star system 
  32.             when your planet appeared.
  33.  
  34.                     SELTIN
  35.                 (smiles gently)
  36.             I expect it must have come as 
  37.             something of a surprise.
  38.  
  39.                     SISKO
  40.             You could say that.  It seemed to 
  41.             come out of nowhere.

  43.                     SELTIN
  44.             Not nowhere, Commander -- it came 
  45.             from a dimension that intersects 
  46.             with this one.

  48.     She sees the intrigued looks on our people's faces.

  52.             if you're interested.  We were just 
  53.             about to sit down for First Meal --
