  7.             So this is where the symbionts breed?
  8.  
  9.                     DAX
  10.                 (nods)
  11.             There are interconnecting pools 
  12.             throughout these caves.  They stretch 
  13.             back for kilometers.
  14.  
  15.     She spots something off-screen, gestures.
  16.  
  17.                     DAX
  18.             Look... one of them is surfacing.
  19.  
  20. 25   ON THE POOL (OPTICAL)
  21.  
  22.     We catch a glimpse of a symbiont's back as it surfaces 
  23.     briefly... an ENERGY DISCHARGE forms on the surface of the 
  24.     pool, then snakes along it before seeming to dissipate.

  26. 26   RESUME SCENE
  27.  
  28.                     SISKO
  29.             What was that energy discharge?
  30.  
  31.                     DAX
  32.             That's how the symbionts communicate 
  33.             with each other.
  34.  
  35.                     BASHIR
  36.             Fascinating...
  37.  
  38.     Just then an odd little fellow ENTERS the cavern and starts 
  39.     toward the pool.  He's a Trill of about thirty-five, with 
  40.     the air of a man who has a lot on his mind.  His name is 
  41.     TIMOR, and it will quickly become apparent that he's more 
  42.     comfortable dealing with symbionts than humanoids.  He's 
  43.     carrying some diagnostic EQUIPMENT.
  44.  
  45.                     DAX
  46.             That's one of the Guardians... don't 
  47.             be surprised if he seems a little 
  48.             distracted.  They're not used to 
  49.             visitors.
  50.  
  51.     Timor moves to the pool's edge... as our people watch, he 
  52.     dips a scoop-type instrument into the pool... holds it up to 
  53.     his eyes, and begins calibrating some dials on the device.  
  54.     He reacts to some mysterious reading he's getting.
