  8.             Rationing.  I thought you had a 
  9.             constant supply of fresh water... 
  10.             from the streams...
  11.  
  12.                     CASSANDRA
  13.             We do...
  14.  
  15.                     SISKO
  16.             Why is she doing this...
  17.  
  18.                     CASSANDRA
  19.             Because we've failed you, Ben... 
  20.             we've failed to help you and Miles 
  21.             find your place here in the 
  22.             community...
  23.  
  24.     She moves away... Sisko takes this in... after a beat, he 
  25.     begins to jab the tool into the ground again, furious at the 
  26.     punishment that all have to share for his actions.  From the 
  27.     compound, a bell rings... it's a call.  People begin to move 
  28.     from whatever they're doing to the center of the compound... 
  29.     Sisko gets up, exhausted, moves into the compound... when 
  30.     all have gathered... we may note that Vinod and O'Brien are 
  31.     not present...
  32.  
  33.                     ALIXUS
  34.             Meg has died.
  35.  
  36.     Gasps... some begin to cry... all are somber...
  37.  
  38.                     ALIXUS
  39.             It happened suddenly, quietly.  Her 
  40.             suffering has ended.
  41.                 (beat)
  42.             No one was prouder of what we've 
  43.             accomplished here than Meg was.  I 
  44.             can remember during some of our most 
  45.             difficult days... hearing her 
  46.             distinctive laugh echo across the 
  47.             field... and it would make me smile 
  48.             and give me hope.  I wish I could 
  49.             hear that laugh now.
  50.                 (beat)
  51.             Her dedication to this community, to 
  52.             us was an inspiration.  Which is why 
  53.             I find myself so troubled today by 
  54.             an act that by its very nature defiles 
  55.             her memory.
