  7.             I don't follow.

  9.     Li studies Sisko.  It's as if he's sizing him up, deciding 
  10.     how much to tell him.
  11.  
  12.                     LI
  13.             Commander, I'm going to tell you a 
  14.             story.  You may even believe it.
  15.  
  16.                     SISKO
  17.             I'm listening.
  18.  
  19.     Li launches into his story.  He paces around the office, 
  20.     lost in memory, speaking with a quiet urgency that compels 
  21.     belief.
  22.  
  23.                     LI
  24.             During the occupation I was a member 
  25.             of a minor resistance cell, the name's 
  26.             unimportant.  One day, this was in 
  27.             the mountains surrounding the Sahving 
  28.             valley, we were ambushed by Cardassian 
  29.             troops.  Only three of us managed to 
  30.             escape.  We hid in the hills for two 
  31.             days, but finally the lack of food 
  32.             and water forced us down into the 
  33.             valley.  We made our way to a ridge 
  34.             above a small lake.  As I was the 
  35.             only one still carrying a phaser, I 
  36.             went ahead to scout for the enemy.  
  37.             Halfway down the embankment I slipped 
  38.             and went sprawling on my back down 
  39.             to the edge of the lake just as a 
  40.             huge Cardassian emerged from the 
  41.             water.  He must have just finished 
  42.             bathing.  He stood there frozen in 
  43.             surprise, dressed only in his 
  44.             underwear, shivering from the cold.  
  45.             I lay there looking up at him too 
  46.             stunned to move.  It was only when 
  47.             he reached over for a phaser rifle 
  48.             lying across his clothes on a nearby 
  49.             rock that I realized I was still 
  50.             holding my own phaser.  I shot him, 
  51.             his body collapsed on top of me, 
  52.             which is how my companions found us 
  53.             a moment later.
