  19.     Li steps forward.  The crowd quiets down.  Li is not 
  20.     comfortable standing before them, but his innate calm and 
  21.     dignity makes him an effective speaker.

  26.     Hearing the great man speak brings an awed silence from the 
  27.     crowd.  We have a moment of absolute quiet.  Li allows himself 
  28.     a small almost rueful smile, then...

  35.     Another beat of silence and then a wave of cheering starts 
  36.     to build.  It builds slowly, erupting finally into loud 
  37.     heartfelt cheers.  Then from out of the crowd we hear a voice 
  38.     rise above the shouting.
