  7.     nowhere... he shakes his head, frustrated... he looks at 
  8.     Dax, failure in his eyes...

  11.                     O'BRIEN
  12.             It's not paying any attention to me.
  13.  
  14.                     DAX
  15.             I guess it just doesn't want to leave.  
  16.             Like a scared puppy.
  17.  
  18.     O'Brien studies the console, searching his mind for answers... 
  19.     verbalizing the thinking process --
  20.  
  21.                     O'BRIEN
  22.             We have no idea how long that probe 
  23.             was tumbling through space... maybe 
  24.             years... with that lifeform alone on 
  25.             board.  It's sort of like shutting 
  26.             the puppy up in a room, you know?  I 
  27.             had a pup once.  If I had to lock 
  28.             him up, he'd scratch forever at the 
  29.             door, trying to get out...

  32.             I'm not sure I know what you're 
  33.             getting at...

  36.                 (suddenly so obvious)
  37.             Pups don't like to be left alone.  
  38.             They like attention.
  39.
