  82. 1.4 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  100. 1.5 SUBMITTALS

  102.     A.  Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

  105.         specified system; include documentation of conformance to
  106.         specified requirements.

  108.     C.  Shop Drawings:
  109.         1.  Submit dimensioned scale drawings as follows:

  111.                 covered, and layout of each type cover assembly;
  112.                 include cover sizes and locations of joints and

  114.             b.  Details:  Indicate cross-section profile of each
  115.                 cover type; show each type fitting indicated on
  116.                 plans.
  117.         2.  Imprint shop drawings with seal and signature of
  118.             professional mechanical engineer, employed by cover
  119.             assembly manufacturer, licensed to practice in the
  120.             State in which the project is located.

  122.     D.  Selection Samples:

  148.             instructions for each assembly component, including

  151.     G.  Closeout Submittals:
  152.         1.  Project record documents:  As-built drawings; two
  153.             sets of specified shop drawings, with markings or
  154.             notations indicating deviations between cover
  155.             assemblies, as installed, and shop drawings.

  162. 1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE
  163.  
  164.     A.  Qualifications:
  165.         1.  Manufacturer:  Minimum five (5) years documented
  166.             experience producing cover assemblies similar to
  167.             those specified in this section, having capability to
  168.             design complete cover assemblies, employing training
  169.             representative qualified to instruct installer's
  170.             personnel in correct installation procedures, and
  171.             employing professional mechanical engineer licensed
  172.             to practice in the State in which the project is
  173.             located.
  174.         2.  Installer:  Having mechanics who have successfully
  175.             completed training conducted by manufacturer's
  176.             training representative.
  177. NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if not required.

  179.     B.  Pre-Installation Meetings:
  180.         1.  Convene at job site seven (7) calendar days prior to
  181.             scheduled beginning of construction activities of
  182.             this section to review requirements of this section.
  183.         2.  Require attendance by representatives of the
  184.             following:
  185.             a.  Installer of this section.
  186.             b.  Other entities directly affecting, or affected

  203.         receive cover assemblies; note discrepancies on submitted

  208.     A.  Manufacturer's Warranty:  Manufacturer's 10-year warranty
  209.         against defects in products.

  240. 2.2 COMPONENTS
  241.  
  242.     A.  Linear Units:  Factory-formed profiles indicated on shop
  243.         drawings, minimum length 5 feet (1524 mm), with
  244.         horizontal edges formed to continuous profile designed to
  245.         interlock with mounting clips and to provide sealant
  246.         groove.
  247. NOTE ** Retain one of the following three sub-paragraphs to
  248.         specify material.
  249.         1.  Material:  Stainless steel sheet conforming to ASTM A
  250.             666, Type 304.
  251.         2.  Material:  Cold-rolled commercial quality steel sheet
  252.             conforming to ASTM A 366/A 366M.
  253.         3.  Material:  Galvanized lock-forming quality steel
  254.             sheet conforming to ASTM A 653/A 653M, G90 (Z275)
  255.             coating.
  256. NOTE ** Retain one of the following five sub-paragraphs to
  257.         specify material.
  258.         4.  Sheet thickness:  16 gage (1.52 mm).
  259.         5.  Sheet thickness:  18 gage (1.22 mm).

  283.     B.  Fittings:  Supply fittings indicated on shop drawings,
  284.         including, but not limited to, the following:
  285.         1.  Exterior and interior corner units:  Same material,
  286.             sheet thickness, and finish as linear units, factory-
  287.             fabricated profile matching linear units; field-
  288.             formed or shop-formed units not permitted.
  289.         2.  End caps:  Same material, sheet thickness, and finish
  290.             as linear units, factory-fabricated profile matching
  291.             linear units; field-formed or shop-formed units not
  292.             permitted.
  293.         3.  Anchor clips:  Spring steel, zinc-plated, minimum 250
  294.             pounds (113.25 kg) uplift resistance at free end,
  295.             formed to interlock with horizontal edges of linear
  296.             units, with fastener types and sizes recommended by
  297.             manufacturer for indicated substrates.
  298. NOTE ** Delete the following sub-paragraph if specifying
  299.         institutional assembly with overlapping butt
  300.         joints.
  301.         4.  Internal splicing sleeves:  Formed to fit inside
  302.             linear units, of material compatible with linear unit
  303.             material.
  304.         5.  Fire sprinkler head spacers.
  305. NOTE ** Since, after installation, the cover assembly is
  306.         virtually non-removable with conventional tools,
  307.         there are two methods for accessing concealed
  308.         piping elements which require servicing:

  311. NOTE ** Using cover removal tool at cover sections where
  312.         access is required.

  314. NOTE ** Use of cover removal tool may require replacement
  315.         of anchor clips at locations of cover removal, and

  317.         locations; the manufacturer recommends that access
  318.         doors be placed at locations which may require
  319.         moderate-to-frequent service.

  323.         6.  Access doors and frames:
  324.             a.  Fabricated of same material, sheet thickness, and
  325.                 finish as linear units.

  328.                 cylinder, and two keys; key all access door locks
  329.                 alike.
  330.             d.  Provide each door with latching assembly to

  342.             a.  Sikadur(R) 51 two-part epoxy sealant.

  355.     E.  Pipe Support Devices:  Specified in Section 15145.

  357.     F.  Pipe Support Devices:  NFPA-tested and certified for
  358.         indicated use, UL-listed, including, but not limited to,
  359.         the following:
  360.         1.  Low-profile steel hanger for supporting steel pipe
  361.             and CPVC pipe.
  362.         2.  Low-profile copper-coated hanger for supporting
  363.             copper pipe or tubing.

  366. PART 3  EXECUTION
  367.  
  368. 3.1 EXAMINATION
  369.  
  370.     A.  Verification of Conditions:  Systems to be concealed are
  371.         located and grouped in accordance with shop drawings.
  372.  
  373.     B.  Installer's Examination:
  374.         1.  Have installer of this section examine conditions
  375.             under which construction activities of this section
  376.             are to be performed, then submit written notification
  377.             if such conditions are unacceptable.
  378.         2.  Transmit two copies of installer's report to
  379.             Architect within 24 hours of receipt.
  380.         3.  Beginning construction activities of this section
  381.             before unacceptable conditions have been corrected is
  382.             prohibited.
  383.         4.  Beginning construction activities of this section
  384.             indicates installer's acceptance of conditions.
  385.  
  386. 3.2 INSTALLATION
  387.  
  388.     A.  Field Cutting:
  389. NOTE ** Delete any of the following sub-paragraphs that do
  390.         not apply to project: third sub-paragraph applies
  391.         to painted finishes only.
  392.         1.  Field cut linear units for required fit at ends of
  393.             runs; make cuts square for hairline end-to-end butt
  394.             joints.
  395.         2.  Field cut openings for indicated sprinkler heads
  396.         3.  Apply touch-up paint matching finish of linear units
  397.             at cut openings.
  398.  
  399.     B.  Install components in accordance with shop drawings and
  400.         manufacturer's instructions.
  401. NOTE ** Retain the following paragraph if specifying
  402.         security cover installation; delete if not
  403.         applicable to project.
  404.  
  405.     C.  Overlap ends of linear units minimum 1 inch (25 mm) at
  406.         end-to-end joints; place rivets at intervals of 1.25
  407.         inches (31 mm), maximum, spaced 0.50 inches (12 mm),
  408.         maximum from end of overlapping section.
  409.  
  410.     D.  Apply specified sealant in accordance with requirements
  411.         of Section 07900 and instructions of sealant and cover
  412.         assembly manufacturers.
  413.  
  414.     E.  Site Tolerances:  Maximum variation of cover assembly
  415.         from plumb or level; 1/4 inch in 10 feet (6.3 mm in 3 m),
  416.         non-cumulative.
  417.  
  418. 3.3 PROTECTION
  419.  
  420.     A.  Protect installed products of this section from damage to
  421.         function or finish by subsequent construction activities.
  422.  
  423.     B.  Repair minor damage to finishes in accordance with
  424.         manufacturer' recommendations.
  425.  
  426.     C.  Replace products having damage to function, and products
  427.         having damage to finishes which cannot be repaired to
  428.         Architect's acceptance.
