  143. 1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE
  144.  
  145.     A.  Manufacturer Qualifications:  Company with not less than
  146.         two years of experience in design and installation of
  147.         extruded aluminum louver opening roof systems similar to
  148.         those required for this project.
  149.  
  150.     B.  Installer Qualifications:  Installer with not less than
  151.         three years of experience in installing similar roofing
  152.         framework, and holding certificate from manufacturer as a
  153.         qualified installer.
  154.  
  155.     C.  Field Measurements:  Where possible, especially with
  156.         existing framework or substrate, take field measurements
  157.         of structural framing and substrate to receive the
  158.         system, prior to manufacture of louvers, gutters, and
  159.         other customized components.
  160.  
  161. 1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
  162.  
  163.     A.  Delivery:  Deliver all components to the project site
  164.         properly packaged to provide reasonable protection
  165.         against damage to material and finishes from transport or
  166.         adverse weather.
  167.         1.  Inspect packaging upon arrival at site for external
  168.             signs of impact or water damage.
  169.         2.  Photograph damaged packaging prior to opening.
  170.         3.  Open damaged packages for close inspection of
  171.             contents
  172.         4.  Notify manufacturer of any damaged packaging or
  173.             product.
  174.  
  175.     B.  Storage:  Store all material above ground on suitable
  176.         platforms or dunnage.  Elevate one end to allow for
  177.         moisture runoff.  Store under waterproof covering.
  178.         Provide for proper ventilation to avoid build-up of
  179.         condensation.

  181.     C.  Handling:  Exercise extreme care in handling, loading and
  182.         unloading, storing and installing components to prevent
  183.         surface damage, bending, and twisting.  Set individual
  184.         louvers in protective racks during preparation work prior
  185.         to installation, to prevent damage.

  187. 1.8 WARRANTY
  188.  
  189.     A.  Manufacturer's Limited Warranty:
  190.         1.  Provide manufacturer's written warranty that aluminum
  191.             louvers, tracks, lock angles, and pivot pins will be
  192.             free of defects in materials and workmanship for a
  193.             period of five years after installation.
  194.         2.  Provide manufacturer's written warranty that other
  195.             components  will be free of defects in materials and
  196.             workmanship for a period of one year after
  197.             installation.
  198.         3.  Provide manufacturer's written warranty against
  199.             cracking, blistering, peeling, or loss of adhesion of
  200.             finishes for a period of five years from the date of
  201.             installation.

  203.     B.  Installer's Warranty:  Provide installer's written
  204.         warranty against defective installation for a period of

  244. 2.3 ALUMINUM COMPONENTS

  246.     A.  Louvers:  Solid extruded aluminum, nominal thickness 0.07
  247.         inches (1.78 mm), cover 5-7/16 inches (138 mm), width 6-
  248.         1/2 inches (165 mm), incorporating 2-1/2 sq in (1613 sq
  249.         mm) water drainage channel in each louver.
  250. NOTE ** Maximum unsupported span of louver blades is 12
  251.         feet (3600 mm), subject to live loading design
  252.         conditions.

  254. NOTE ** Select one of the following length options and
  255.         delete the others.  Standard louver lengths are 7
  256.         feet, 8 feet, 9 feet, 10 feet, 11 feet, and 12
  257.         feet.  Louvers can be cut to exact length required.

  329. 3.1 EXAMINATION

  331.     A.  Verify that installation areas conform with dimensions
  332.         and tolerances shown on approved shop drawings.

  334.     B.  Examine area of installation to verify that substrates
  335.         are ready to receive installation of opening roof
  336.         components.

  338.     C.  Verify locations for gutter downspouts.

  340.     D.  Verify that appropriate power source is available for

  346. 3.2 INSTALLATION
  347.  
  348.     A.  Install components to be plumb, level, and straight, and
  349.         make all connections rigid and secure, in conformance
  350.         with the design indicated.

  352.     B.  Install custom guttering to be rigid, secure, and free
  353.         from leaks, providing proper and adequate drainage.
  354.  
  355.     C.  Install extruded aluminum louvers and associated
  356.         components so they are parallel and secure and operate
  357.         correctly and freely, providing adequate fall for louver
  358.         drainage, in compliance with manufacturer's instructions.
  359.  
  360.     D.  Install electrical components and make electrical
  361.         connections in conformance with governing codes and
  362.         manufacturer's instructions.
  363.  
  364. 3.3 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING
  365.  
  366.     A.  Verify that all movable components are operating properly
  367.         and that installation is complete.  Make any adjustments
  368.         needed to bring installation into conformance with
  369.         manufacturer's specifications.
  370.  
  371.     B.  Remove excess materials and debris caused by work of this
  372.         section from the project site.
  373.  
  374.     C.  Clean structure, gutters, louvers, and other components
  375.         in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
  376.  
  377.     D.  Touch up minor scratches and abrasions with paint
  378.         provided or approved by manufacturer or material
  379.         finisher.
  380.  
  381.     E.  Protect finished work against damage.  Replace any work
  382.         that becomes damaged prior to final inspection and
  383.         acceptance.
