  14. NOTE ** Eckoustic Functional Panels are high performance
  15.         sound-absorbing panels that can be spot located on
  16.         walls or ceilings to achieve effective noise
  17.         control.  Because they are independent panels, EFPs
  18.         can be put into place without disturbing existing
  19.         lighting or HVAC diffusers.  Attractive, fire
  20.         resistant, durable, and easily cleaned, they are
  21.         ideal for correcting noise problems in gymnasiums,
  22.         swimming pools, auditoriums and theaters, and
  23.         similar facilities.  They also are appropriate for
  24.         industrial noise control use in water and waste
  25.         water treatment facilities and power plants as well
  26.         as manufacturing facilities.

  59. 1.4 SUBMITTALS
  60.  
  61.     A.  Submit in accordance with provisions of Section 01300.

  79. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
  80.  
  81.     A.  Installer Qualifications:  Installers shall have
  82.         demonstrated experience in assembly and installation of
  83.         products similar to those specified in this section.
  84.  
  85. 1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
  86.  
  87.     A.  Deliver materials in manufacturer's original unopened and
  88.         undamaged packages with labels legible and intact.
  89.  
  90.     B.  Store materials in unopened packages in a manner that
  91.         will avoid damage from the environment and from
  92.         construction operations.
  93.  
  94.     C.  Handle in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
  95.  
  96. 1.7 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  97.  
  98.     A.  Do not begin installation of acoustic panels until
  99.         building has been enclosed and environmental conditions
  100.         approximate interior conditions that will prevail when
  101.         building is occupied.

  106. 2.1 MANUFACTURERS

  114. 2.2 ACOUSTIC PANELS
  115.  
  116.     A.  Panels - Performance:
  117.         1.  Sound Absorption:  Provide panels that are certified
  118.             to meet the following minimum sound absorption for a
  119.             30 inch by 120 inch panel when tested in accordance
  120.             with ASTM C 423:
  121.             a.  125 Hz:  6.2 sabins.
  122.             b.  250 Hz:  20.5 sabins.
  123.             c.  500 Hz:  35.2 sabins.
  124.             d.  1000 Hz:  34.5 sabins.
  125.             e.  2000 Hz:  31.5 sabins.
  126.             f.  4000 Hz:  33.1 sabins.
  127.             g.  NRC:  0.99, minimum.
  128.         2.  Fire:  Provide panels that demonstrate the following
  129.             performance when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84:
  130.             a.  Flame spread:  10 maximum.
  131.             b.  Smoke density:  5 maximum.
  132. NOTE ** Edit paragraph below for specific areas, if
  133.         required.

  135.     B.  Provide Eckoustic Functional Panels with total area not
  136.         less than 50 percent of gross ceiling area.
  137.  
  138.     C.  Panel Dimensions:  30 inches wide by 5 foot, 6 foot, 8
  139.         foot, and 10 foot lengths as indicated on the drawings.
  140. NOTE ** Delete one of the following two paragraphs -- the
  141.         first is for steel panels, the second is for
  142.         aluminum panels.

  144.     D.  Panel Facings:  22 gage electrogalvanized steel sheet,
  145.         perforated with 3/32 inch holes on 5/32 inch staggered
  146.         centers; vee-ridged on 6-inch centers to a depth of 3/4
  147.         inch.

  149.     E.  Panel Facings:  0.032 inch thick aluminum sheet,
  150.         perforated with 3/32 inch holes on 5/32 inch staggered
  151.         centers; vee-ridged on 6-inch centers to a depth of 3/4
  152.         inch.

  154.     F.  Framing:  0.040 inch thick channel shaped steel or
  155.         aluminum transverse framing members.  For units 30 inches
  156.         wide to 72 inches in length, provide two stiffening
  157.         channels; for units 96 inches in length, provide three
  158.         channels.

  160.     G.  Fill:  2 inch thick, fine fibered fibrous glass having a
  161.         density of not less than 1.5 pounds per cubic foot,
  162.         wrapped in a 1.5 mil flame guard polyethylene.

  164.         finish is standard for both steel and aluminum
  165.         panels.  Natural aluminum is only for aluminum
  166.         panels.

  178. 2.3 MOUNTING COMPONENTS
  179. NOTE ** Delete one of the two following paragraphs.  Steel
  180.         brackets are for steel panels; stainless steel
  181.         brackets are for aluminum panels.

  183.     A.  Brackets:  Provide four 10 gage steel brackets per unit
  184.         for attachment to walls and ceilings, providing 4 inches
  185.         of clearance between back of panel and mounting surface.
  186.  
  187.     B.  Brackets:  Provide four 10 gage 316 stainless steel
  188.         brackets per unit for attachment to walls and ceilings,
  189.         providing 4 inches of clearance between back of panel and
  190.         mounting surface.

  192.     C.  Anchors and Fasteners:  Provide aluminum fasteners for
  193.         securing facing to framing members and for securing
  194.         framing members to brackets; provide corrosion-resistant
  195.         anchors for fastening to substrate, as recommended by
  196.         panel manufacturer and approved by Architect.

  199. PART 3  EXECUTION
  200.  
  201. 3.1 EXAMINATION
  202.  
  203.     A.  Examine surfaces to receive work of this section.  Do not
  204.         begin installation until unsatisfactory conditions have
  205.         been corrected.
  206.  
  207. 3.2 INSTALLATION
  208.  
  209.     A.  Install panels on walls and ceilings in locations and in
  210.         patterns indicated on the drawings.
  211.  
  212.     B.  Install each unit as indicated on shop drawings and in
  213.         accordance with manufacturer's printed instructions,
  214.         using approved anchors and fasteners.
  215.  
  216. 3.3 ADJUST AND CLEAN
  217.  
  218.     A.  After installation of acoustic panels, clean all dirty or
  219.         discolored surfaces, using cleaning materials and methods
  220.         acceptable to manufacturer.  Replace damaged components
  221.         as directed by the Architect.
  222.  
  223.     B.  Remove debris caused by work of this section on a daily
  224.         basis.  At completion of acoustic panel installation,
  225.         remove all crates, cartons, packages, and debris from the
  226.         project site.
