- NOTE ** The Fire Trak System has been developed to solve
- the problem of firestopping the heads of fire rated
- partitions, while still allowing for movement of
- roof or floor decks. The system uses only standard
- materials that are used to construct the
- partitions, and no special training of installers
- is required.

- 1.4 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

- A. Fire Resistance Classification: Provide assemblies that
- have been tested and certified by an independent testing
- laboratory for fire ratings indicated on the drawings.
- 1. Provide assemblies listed in UL (FRD) - Fire
- Resistance Directory.
- 2. Provide assemblies listed in WH (CERT) - Warnock
- Hersey Certification Listings.

- 1.5 SUBMITTALS

- A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

- B. Product Data: Manufacturer's standard product data,
- including product descriptions, specifications,
- installation instructions and procedures, and storage
- requirements.

- C. Shop Drawings: Details for each installation situation,
- including fastenings, requirements for anchoring, and
- supporting test data for fire ratings.

- 1.6 MOCK-UP
-
- A. Prepare firestopping mock-ups at locations designated by
- the Architect, demonstrating required materials and
- quality of installation.
- 1. Approved mock-ups will serve as standards for the
- remainder of the project.
- 2. Approved mock-ups may be left in place as part of the
- completed work of this section.

- 1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
-
- A. Deliver materials to project site in manufacturer's
- unopened packaging bearing manufacturer's name, product
- identification, and approval marks by independent testing
- laboratories, as applicable.
-
- B. Coordinate deliveries with project activities to minimize
- storage time on project site.
-
- C. Store products in accordance with manufacturer's
- instructions.
-
- 1.8 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
-
- A. Do not install firestopping compound until building is
- enclosed and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning
- systems are in operation.
-
- B. Maintain temperature in areas of installation at not less
- than 50 degrees F (10 degrees C).

- PART 2 PRODUCTS

- 2.1 MANUFACTURERS

- A. Provide Fire Trak Ceiling Runners manufactured by Fire

- B. Requests for substitutions will be considered in
- accordance with provisions of Section 01600.

- 2.2 PRODUCTS

- A. Ceiling Runners: Fire Trak Ceiling Runners formed from
- galvanized steel sheet, not less than 25 gage (0.53 mm)
- thickness, and as follows:

- 1. Style: Shadowline.
- 2. Style: Cavity Shadowline.
- 3. Style: Reveal.
- 4. Style: Cavity Reveal.
- 5. Styles: As indicated on drawings for different
- locations.

- B. Gypsum Wallboard: Type X, and as otherwise specified in
- Section 09260.

- C. Insulation: Mineral wool, not less than 3.5 pcf (56
- kg/sq m) density.

- D. Firestopping Compound: Gypsum based compound, free of
- asbestos and capable of maintaining an effective barrier
- against flame, smoke, and gas.
- 1. Provide required Flame (F) and Temperature (T)
- ratings, as tested per ASTM E 814 by an independent
- testing agency acceptable to governing authorities.
- 2. Provide one of the following:
- a. Sta-Smooth FS-90 Fire Shield, by National Gypsum
- Company.
- b. Fire Halt Compound, by GypRoc Company.
- c. Fire Stop Compound, by United States Gypsum
- Company.

- E. Accessories:
- 1. Fasteners: Power driven self-tapping screws, as
- required by tested and rated assemblies.
- 2. Stud clips: Fire Trak Slip Clips.

- PART 3 EXECUTION
-
- 3.1 EXAMINATION
-
- A. Inspect and verify that surface conditions of substrates
- have no defects that would interfere with installation of
- the firestopping system.
-
- B. Do not proceed with firestopping installation until
- unacceptable conditions have been corrected.
-
- 3.2 PREPARATION
-
- A. Clean surfaces and substrates that will be in contact
- with firestopping compound. Remove dirt, oil, rust,
- loose material, and other foreign materials that may
- affect proper bond of the firestopping compound.
-
- 3.3 INSTALLATION
-
- A. Install firestopping assemblies in accordance with
- manufacturer's instructions to provide required F and T
- ratings. Ensure that anchoring devices, back-up
- material, clip supports, and other materials are
- consistent with tested and approved assemblies.
-
- B. Attach ceiling runners to floor or ceiling decking, roof
- decking, or other structure with anchors spaced no more
- than 24 inches (61 mm) on center.

- C. Apply firestopping compound in accordance with
- instructions of compound manufacturer.
-
- 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
-
- A. Examine completed firestopping assemblies to ensure
- proper installation and full compliance with contract
- documents and requirements of governing authorities.
-
- B. Keep area of firestopping work accessible until inspected
- and approved by applicable authorities.
-
- 3.5 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING
-
- A. Adjusting: Patch and repair damaged or otherwise
- unacceptable firestopping and provide additional
- inspections as required to assure compliance with
- requirements.

- B. Cleaning: Remove debris and excess materials from
- project site, and leave completed work in neat and tidy
- condition.
