  15. NOTE ** The Fire Trak System has been developed to solve
  16.         the problem of firestopping the heads of fire rated
  17.         partitions, while still allowing for movement of
  18.         roof or floor decks.  The system uses only standard
  19.         materials that are used to construct the
  20.         partitions, and no special training of installers
  21.         is required.

  81. 1.6 MOCK-UP
  82.  
  83.     A.  Prepare firestopping mock-ups at locations designated by
  84.         the Architect, demonstrating required materials and
  85.         quality of installation.
  86.         1.  Approved mock-ups will serve as standards for the
  87.             remainder of the project.
  88.         2.  Approved mock-ups may be left in place as part of the
  89.             completed work of this section.

  91. 1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  93.     A.  Deliver materials to project site in manufacturer's
  94.         unopened packaging bearing manufacturer's name, product
  95.         identification, and approval marks by independent testing
  96.         laboratories, as applicable.

  98.     B.  Coordinate deliveries with project activities to minimize

  104. 1.8 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  107.         enclosed and heating, ventilating, and air conditioning
  108.         systems are in operation.

  110.     B.  Maintain temperature in areas of installation at not less
  111.         than 50 degrees F (10 degrees C).

  116. 2.1 MANUFACTURERS

  154.     D.  Firestopping Compound:  Gypsum based compound, free of
  155.         asbestos and capable of maintaining an effective barrier
  156.         against flame, smoke, and gas.
  157.         1.  Provide required Flame (F) and Temperature (T)
  158.             ratings, as tested per ASTM E 814 by an independent
  159.             testing agency acceptable to governing authorities.

  173. PART 3  EXECUTION
  174.  
  175. 3.1 EXAMINATION
  176.  
  177.     A.  Inspect and verify that surface conditions of substrates
  178.         have no defects that would interfere with installation of
  179.         the firestopping system.
  180.  
  181.     B.  Do not proceed with firestopping installation until
  182.         unacceptable conditions have been corrected.
  183.  
  184. 3.2 PREPARATION
  185.  
  186.     A.  Clean surfaces and substrates that will be in contact
  187.         with firestopping compound.  Remove dirt, oil, rust,
  188.         loose material, and other foreign materials that may
  189.         affect proper bond of the firestopping compound.
  190.  
  191. 3.3 INSTALLATION
  192.  
  193.     A.  Install firestopping assemblies in accordance with
  194.         manufacturer's instructions to provide required F and T
  195.         ratings.  Ensure that anchoring devices, back-up
  196.         material, clip supports, and other materials are
  197.         consistent with tested and approved assemblies.
  198.  
  199.     B.  Attach ceiling runners to floor or ceiling decking, roof
  200.         decking, or other structure with anchors spaced no more
  201.         than 24 inches (61 mm) on center.
  202.  
  203.     C.  Apply firestopping compound in accordance with
  204.         instructions of compound manufacturer.
  205.  
  206. 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
  207.  
  208.     A.  Examine completed firestopping assemblies to ensure
  209.         proper installation and full compliance with contract
  210.         documents and requirements of governing authorities.
  211.  
  212.     B.  Keep area of firestopping work accessible until inspected
  213.         and approved by applicable authorities.
  214.  
  215. 3.5 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING
  216.  
  217.     A.  Adjusting:  Patch and repair damaged or otherwise
  218.         unacceptable firestopping and provide additional
  219.         inspections as required to assure compliance with
  220.         requirements.
  221.  
  222.     B.  Cleaning:  Remove debris and excess materials from
  223.         project site, and leave completed work in neat and tidy
  224.         condition.
