  5.         roof panels for on-roof machine-seaming.  The
  6.         section includes stainless steel and terne-coated
  7.         stainless steel, without applied finishes.

  135.         ASCE 7, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other
  136.         Structures.

  188. 1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE
  189.  
  190.     A.  Manufacturer Qualifications:  Minimum of 5 years of
  191.         experience manufacturing stainless steel roof panel
  192.         systems similar to roof panel system required for this
  193.         project.

  195.     B.  Installer Qualifications:  Minimum of 5 years of
  196.         experience in installing stainless steel roof panel
  197.         systems similar to roof panel system required for this
  198.         project.
  199.  
  200.     C.  Field Measurements:  Where possible, take field
  201.         measurements of structural framing and substrate to
  202.         receive the stainless steel roof panels, prior to
  203.         fabrication of roof panels.
  204. NOTE ** Delete the following if not required.  A mock-up is
  205.         probably not required or justified for standard
  206.         manufactured products.
  207.  
  208.     D.  Mock-Up:  Before proceeding with installation, prepare a
  209.         project mock-up that incorporates materials and methods
  210.         of fabrication and installation identical with project
  211.         requirements.
  212.         1.  Retain accepted mock-up as quality standard for
  213.             acceptance of completed stainless steel roof panel
  214.             installation.
  215.         2.  If accepted, mock-up may be incorporated as a part of
  216.             the work.
  217.  
  218. 1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
  219.  
  220.     A.  Deliver stainless steel roof panels to the project site
  221.         properly packaged to provide protection against
  222.         transportation damage and adverse weather.  Inspect roof
  223.         panel materials upon arrival at site.  Notify
  224.         manufacturer of any damaged or stained material.
  225.  
  226.     B.  Store stainless steel material and accessories above
  227.         ground on well skidded platforms.  Elevate one end of
  228.         each skid to allow for moisture run-off.  Store under
  229.         waterproof covering.  Provide proper ventilation to
  230.         prevent condensation build-up between each roof panel
  231.         system elements.
  232.  
  233.     C.  Exercise extreme care in unloading, storing and erecting
  234.         stainless steel roof panels to prevent bending, warping,
  235.         twisting, and surface damage.
  236.  
  237. 1.8 WARRANTY
  238.  
  239.     A.  Material Warranty:  Provide material warranty issued by
  240.         manufacturer to cover stainless steel roof panels base
  241.         metal against rupture, structural failure, or perforation
  242.         due to exposure to normal atmospheric corrosion.
  243. NOTE ** Retain the paragraph below only if available from
  244.         contractor and installer; otherwise delete.
  245.         Coordinate with "Conditions of the Contract" for
  246.         the project.
  247.  
  248.     B.  Weathertightness Warranty:  Provide warranty issued by
  249.         contractor and roof panel installer to cover roof panel
  250.         system against leaks arising out of or caused by ordinary
  251.         wear and tear under normal weather and atmospheric
  252.         conditions.

  254.     C.  Finish Warranty:  Provide manufacturer's material
  255.         warranty to cover roof panel finish defects.

  258. PART 2  PRODUCTS
  259.  
  260. 2.1 MANUFACTURERS
  261. NOTE ** Contact the Specialty Steel Industry of the United
  262.         States, Inc. for a directory of members.

  264.     A.  Stainless Steel Sheet:  Provide material manufactured by
  265.         a producing mill member of the Specialty Steel Industry
  266.         of the United States.  ASD.
  267. NOTE ** The manufacturers of the stainless steel sheet
  268.         usually do not also make it into manufactured roof
  269.         panels.  Consult roof panel manufacturers' catalog
  270.         literature for information about types and styles
  271.         available.

  291.     A.  Stainless Steel Sheet:  ASTM A 240/A 240M, Type 304,
  292.         fully annealed, dead soft temper, finish and thickness as
  293.         indicated and in accordance with roof panel
  294.         manufacturer's standards.
  295.  
  296.     B.  Stainless Steel Sheet:  Terne-coated stainless steel
  297.         sheet, complying with ASTM A 308, Type 304, fully
  298.         annealed, dead soft temper.
  299.         1.  Coating:  Coat both sides of stainless steel sheet
  300.             with terne alloy (80-20 lead/tin) in accordance with
  301.             manufacturer's standards for nominal coating weight.
  302.         2.  Thickness as indicated and in accordance with
  303.             manufacturer's standard.
  304.  
  305. 2.3 MANUFACTURED UNITS
  306.  
  307.     A.  Roof Panels:  Roll-formed continuous stainless steel roof
  308.         panels, designed for on-roof machine seaming.
  309. NOTE ** Delete all but one of the following panel type
  310.         descriptions.  Edit as required to describe the
  311.         actual product necessary.
  312.         1.  Panel Type:  Standing-seam.
  313.         2.  Panel Type:  Batten-seam.
  314.         3.  Panel Type:  Profile indicated on drawings.
  315. NOTE ** Delete one of the following panel length
  316.         descriptions.  Most manufacturers have maximum
  317.         panel lengths that are determined by their
  318.         manufacturing capabilities.  If very long lengths
  319.         are required, such as lengths to eliminate all
  320.         horizontal joints, on-site roll-forming is
  321.         available -- specify length required so contractor
  322.         will know that that is a requirement of the
  323.         project.
  324.         4.  Panel Lengths:  Up to manufacturer's maximum standard
  325.             lengths.
  326.         5.  Panel Lengths:  ________ feet, minimum.

  354. PART 3  EXECUTION
  355.  
  356. 3.1 EXAMINATION
  357.  
  358.     A.  Verify that substrates and adjacent work are ready to
  359.         receive work of this section.  Do not proceed until
  360.         unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
  361.  
  362. 3.2 INSTALLATION
  363.  
  364.     A.  Install roof panels in accordance with manufacturer's
  365.         instructions and shop drawings, including the use of
  366.         "starter" strips.
  367.  
  368.     B.  Install panels plumb, level, and straight, with seams and
  369.         ribs/battens parallel, conforming to the design as
  370.         indicated.
  371.  
  372.     C.  Install roof panels for a weathertight condition,
  373.         allowing for expansion and contraction of metal.
  374.  
  375.     D.  Install underlayment as recommended by panel
  376.         manufacturer.
  377.  
  378.     E.  Prevent contamination of stainless steel by such elements
  379.         as iron filings, carbon steel fasteners, hydrochloric
  380.         acid base fluxes, and chloride masonry cleaners.
  381.  
  382. 3.3 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING
  383.  
  384.     A.  Legally dispose of excess materials and remove debris
  385.         from site.
  386.  
  387.     B.  Clean work in accordance with recommendations of roof
  388.         panel manufacturer.
  389.  
  390.     C.  Touch up minor scratches and abrasions as recommended by
  391.         roof panel manufacturer.

  393.     D.  Protect work against damage.  Replace work that becomes
  394.         damaged prior to final acceptance.
