  6. My name is Mitch Bradley.  I am the proprietor of Bradley Forthware and
  7. the author of Forthmacs.  This file describes my policy about making and
  8. giving away copies of Forthmacs.  In general, you are free to give away
  9. copies of the Forthmacs Working Disk subject to a few restrictions.

  13. Forthmacs is copyrighted.  This means that I retain the ownership of
  14. Forthmacs.  However, I hereby give you permission to use, make and give
  15. away copies of the "Forthmacs Working Disk Version 1.0".  The "Forthmacs
  16. Working Disk" contains the files listed in the file FILES.LST

  20. Having used many computer languages extensively, I think that Forth
  21. is the most productive language that has yet been invented.
  22. I think that Forthmacs is one of the very best Forth systems available
  23. today, for any computer, for any price.  Forthmacs is the result of
  24. 4 years of intensive Forth development work on a number of 68000 based
  25. computers.  Forthmacs is full of features to make programming easy, and
  26. to give you total control of your computer.  I'm proud of this software.
  27. If you like Forthmacs, you can show your appreciation for my effort by
  28. sending me $50.  I'll make it worth your while by sending you a complete
  29. Forthmacs manual and some other goodies.

  31. You can use Forthmacs without paying me anything, but consider:

  33. a) $50 is a very low price for a system this good.
  34. b) Your support will enable me to continue improving Forthmacs
  35.    and to make it available for future computers.

  37.         Your $50 Contribution

  39. If you send in $50, you'll be a registered Forthmacs user, and I'll say
  40. "Thank You" with:

  42.     - An up-to-date copy of the "Forthmacs Working Disk"
  43.     - A printed 200+ page Forthmacs manual

  45. As a registered user, you can:

  47.     - Get new updates at any time (for a small fee)
  48.     - Purchase the Forthmacs source code.
  49.     - Find out about new products.
  50.     - Receive support as described below.

  54. I can't afford to provide telephone support for these prices, but I will
  55. answer questions from registered users if they send me a letter.  If you
  56. need telephone support, we can negotiate a price depending on the level
  57. of support that you require.

  59.         Bugs
  60.  
  61. Forthmacs is very solid software.  I don't know of any bugs, but I would
  62. be pretty surprised if a few aren't hiding in there somewhere.  I don't
  63. like to have bugs in my software.  If you find one, send me a letter
  64. (presumably after you've sent in your $50) and I'll probably fix it.
  65. Keep in mind, though, that there is sometimes a fine line between a
  66. "bug" and a "feature".  Also, in some cases the effort required to fix
  67. something is way out of line with the benefits; in those cases it's often
  68. better to find a workaround.  So, no guarantees, but I'll do my best to
  69. make Forthmacs as bug-free as is practical.

  71.         Licensing

  73. Suppose that you develop software that runs under Forthmacs and wish to
  74. distribute your software along with Forthmacs.  If you give away your
  75. software, you may also give away a copy of Forthmacs with it, so long as
  76. you give away the entire "Forthmacs Working Disk", with nothing removed.
  77. You are free to put it on bulletin boards if you wish, again with the
  78. stipulation that you put the entire "Forthmacs Working Disk" there.

  80. If you plan to sell your software, please get in touch with me so we can
  81. work out a licensing agreement.  Forthmacs may not be sold as part of
  82. any system without a licensing agreement.  I'll be willing to work out
  83. an agreement that is fair to both of us.

  85.         Copying Fees
  86.  
  87. If you normally charge a fee for making someone a copy of a disk, you
  88. may charge the same fee for making a copy of Forthmacs.  The fee must be
  89. based solely on the cost of making the copy, and must be the same fee
  90. that you charge for a copy of any other disk.

  103. Bradley Forthware shall have no liability or responsibility to any
  104. person or entity with respect to any loss or damage caused or alleged to
  105. be caused directly or indirectly by Forthmacs.  This includes, but is
  106. not limited to, any interruption of service, loss of business, loss of
  107. information or that which is rendered inaccurate, or loss of anticipated
  108. profits or ANY OTHER CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES RESULTING FROM
  109. THE USE OF Forthmacs, even if Bradley Forthware has been advised of the
  110. possibility of such damages.

  123.         Earlier Versions

  125. There are some preliminary copies of this software floating around.  I
  126. would like for them to be replaced with this version, because the older
  127. version has a number of bugs and deficiencies.  If you know people
  128. with old copies, I'd appreciate it if you would provide them with this
  129. version.  The older copies, instead of saying "Forthmacs version 1.0"
  130. when started, say "68000 Forth 83 - Atari 520 version".
