- Version 1.00
- (C) 1991 Enque Software
-
- I. System Requirements.
- An Atari ST with at least 520K, single sided drive, and
- color monitor.
-
- II. Installing Capital Fun as an Autoboot Floppy.
- Format a disk and create folders named AUTO, DATA, and
- LESSONS. Copy CAPFUN.PRG into the AUTO folder and copy the learn
- and apply files into the LESSONS folder. These files are named
- LEARN.1, LEARN.2, LEARN.3, LEARN.4, LEARN.5, APPLY.1 and APPLY.2.
- The remainder of the files go into the DATA folder, and are
- SAMPLES.MBK, TITLE.MBK, BUTTONS.NEO, SPACE.NEO and CAPFUN.NEO.
- Now turn your computer off, put the newly created disk in drive A:
- and turn your computer on. The program will load and run
- automatically.
-
- III. Installing Capital Fun on a Hard Disk.
- Create a CAPFUN folder on your hard drive and move into it
- with a double click. Create the DATA and LESSONS folders within
- this folder. Now copy CAPFUN.PRG into the folder, and the files
- listed above into the appropriate DATA and LESSONS folders.
- Double click on CAPFUN.PRG to begin.
-
- IV. Program Design.
- We at Enque Software designed Capital Fun to teach and
- reinforce fundamental capitalization rules. Capital fun was
- created for second to sixth graders, and tested extensively with
- the aid of the Lone Jack third grade in Lone Jack, Missouri.
- Although designed for class use, Capital Fun is just as effective
- in the home.
-
- Capital Fun was designed according to Bloom's Taxonomy of
- Higher Order Thinking Skills and Madeline Hunter's Steps of the
- Teaching Process. These principles were implemented through three
- activities, namely learn, practice and apply.
-
- In the learn section each concept is presented as a rule and
- modeled for the student. The student then has opportunities for
- both guided and independent practice to ensure comprehension of
- the concept. Finally, in the apply section, students must
- remember and use all concepts learned within the context of a
- paragraph.
-
- V. Using the Program.
- Insert your autoboot disk into drive A:, and turn on your
- computer, or if you have a hard disk, get into the CAPFUN folder
- and double click on CAPFUN.PRG. After the Enque Software title
- screen, you will be presented with a bar at the top of the screen
- with four buttons. These are the Fuji symbol button on the left,
- and the learn, practice and apply buttons on the right. Click on
- one of these buttons to perform one of the activities described
- below.
-
- A) Fuji Symbol
- Select the Fuji symbol to access the information items or
- quit the program. After selection, you will find buttons that
- allow you to find information about the authors, Enque Software,
- and registration of the program. If you wish to go back to the
- main menu, just click again on the Fuji symbol, or select the quit
- button to exit the program.
-
- B) Learn
- Select learn, and you will be presented with a list of
- the 20 lessons. Select a lesson and you will be shown the rule,
- along with examples. Read the rule and examples very carefully
- until you understand the concept. You may then either select the
- button to return to the main menu, or try the guided practice. If
- you select guided practice, you will be presented with an example
- sentence that has all capitalization removed. Read the sentence
- carefully, then click the mouse to begin. Position the finger of
- the mouse hand pointer on the letter you think should be
- capitalized and click the mouse. If the letter indeed should be
- capitalized, then you will hear a click and see it convert to
- uppercase. If you were wrong, you will hear an annoying buzzing
- sound and see a message telling you that the letter should be
- lowercase. Continue working on the sentence until all letters are
- corrected. You will see a number at the lower left part of the
- screen that indicates letters left to capitalize. During the
- guided practice, you may at any time click on the review button to
- review the examples. When you have completed the guided practice,
- you will be returned to the main menu.
-
- C) Practice
- When you have first completed the learn exercise with a
- particular rule, select practice. You will be presented with the
- list of lessons as in the learn section. Select the lesson you
- wish to practice. You will then be presented with a screen
- showing the rule and an uncapitalized practice sentence. Take
- your time and correct the sentence to the best of your ability.
- This exercise, unlike the guided practice, will allow you the
- freedom to capitalize any letter of the sentence you wish, up to
- all of them. If you capitalize a letter by accident that you did
- not wish to capitalize, just click on the letter again to convert
- it back to lowercase. When you feel you have done your best,
- click on the score button. Your practice will be graded and you
- will be given information on the mistakes you made, if any.
- Repeat this process until you have capitalized the sentence
- correctly, at which time you will be presented with the next
- sentence. At any time you may click on the main menu button to
- return to the main menu.
-
- D) Apply
- When you select apply you will be shown a list of article
- titles. These articles apply more than one concept, and should be
- tried once you comprehend the concepts studied in the lessons.
- Select an article by clicking on the button next to the title.
- You will then be presented with the article without any
- capitalization. Do your best to correct the article, applying
- what you have learned to the best of your ability. When you feel
- that you have completed the article, click on the score button to
- show your results. If you have a score less than 100 percent, you
- will be given the second chance to find your mistakes. If there
- are still mistakes after scoring this second try, then the
- incorrect letters remaining will flash. You must then click on
- each flashing letter to complete your corrections before you can
- return to the main menu.
-
- IV. About the ShareWare Concept
- Capital Fun is being distributed under the ShareWare concept.
