  36.       The Setup program will detect and retain some settings from
  37.       your previous version of Netscape Navigator PE. If you use a 
  38.       script to log into Concentric, Setup will also convert your 
  39.       old login scripts to use the new format.

  41.    b. Windows 95:

  43.       If you have an older version of Netscape Navigator PE installed  
  44.       on your computer, your Dialer files will be converted to Windows 95
  45.       Dial-Up Networking connections. If you had used Personal Edition 
  46.       to configure your Microsoft Exchange mail preferences, Netscape 
  47.       Navigator PE 3.0 will configure the Navigator to use your old mail
  48.       preferences.

  52. 2. Installation Tips
  53.  
  54.    a. Installing Over Netscape 2.X
  55.  
  56.       If you are installing Netscape Navigator 3.0 over an existing
  57.       copy of Netscape 2.X, you must reboot your system (not just 
  58.       restart Windows) after installation and before you can connect 
  59.       to the network. To do this, close Windows, then hit the reset  
  60.       button, or turn your computer off and on again.

  62.    b. Other Browser Software. 
  63.  
  64.       If you have other Web browsers or online software on your system, 
  65.       you may experience difficulty in installing or configuring 
  66.       Netscape Navigator PE. Try un-installing the other software, then 
  67.       resume the Netscape Navigator installation. If you have more problems, 
  68.       see the information on winsock.dll conflicts in the "Troubleshooting"
  69.       section below.

  77.       To receive mail through Netscape Navigator PE, click on the Get 
  78.       Mail icon.

  82.       Select the Mail and News Preferences under the Options menu. 
  83.       On the Servers tab, set "Check for Mail" to the number of 
  84.       minutes the Netscape Navigator should wait between mail checks.

  86.       If you are using the Netscape Navigator PE while off-line, you may wish to
  87.       set "Check for Mail" to 0 to prevent the Netscape Navigator from making
  88.       an auto-dial to the network to check your mail.

  90.     c. How do I Uninstall Netscape Navigator PE?

  92.        1) Windows 3.x
  93.  
  94.           NOTE: Do not run NUNINST.EXE unless you are certain that 
  95.           you want to uninstall Netscape Navigator PE  3.0.  After 
  96.           running nuninst.exe, some Netscape configuration information 
  97.           will be deleted, even if you choose No on the uninstaller's 
  98.           confirmation dialog. If you begin any part of the uninstall 
  99.           process, you must re-install the entire product.
  100.  
  101.           To uninstall Netscape Navigator PE, run the program 
  102.           NUNINST.EXE. The uninstall program is located in the 
  103.           C:\cncinet\netscape\uninstal directory.
  104.  
  105.        2) Windows 95
  106.  
  107.           To Uninstall Netscape Navigator PE, select 
  108.           Settings | Control Panel from the Windows 95 Start Menu.  
  109.           Then select Add / Remove Programs from the Control Panel. 
  110.           To uninstall, select Netscape Navigator PE from the list
  111.           of installed programs, and click the Add / Remove button.

  115. 4. Troubleshooting
  116.  
  117.    a. My modem is not listed in Modem Wizard's list of modems.
  118.  
  119.       First, try the "Hayes compatible" setting.  If the "Hayes 
  120.       compatible" setting does not work, try the "Other Windows 
  121.       modem" setting.
  122.  
  123.       If this happens, you will have to specify your modem manually.
  124.  
  125.       1) Restart Windows, then double click on the Account Signup icon 
  126.          in the Netscape Navigator PE Program Group. 
  127.       2) Click through Account Setup until you reach the Modem Setup 
  128.          dialog box. 
  129.       3) Check the box beside the phrase, "DonΓt detect my modem, let 
  130.          me specify it."
  131.       4) Select your modem from the list, then complete the rest of 
  132.          the Account Signup procedure.
  133.  
  134.    b. I'm using Windows 95, and my computer won't dial my modem. 
  135.  
  136.       After installing your modem under Windows 95, either through 
  137.       the Modems icon in the Windows 95 Control Panel, or through 
  138.       the Account Setup Wizard, you must shut down and restart 
  139.       your entire computer before Windows 95 will be able to dial 
  140.       your modem.
  141.  
  142.    c. I can't connect to the network. What do I do?
  143.  
  144.       There are several reasons why you may not be able to connect
  145.       to the network. Here are four of the most common:
  146.  
  147.       1) In order to gain access to the network, you must type in your
  148.          UserID and password exactly as you entered them when you reg-
  149.          istered for your Concentric Network account. Make sure that 
  150.          you are typing in your UserID and password correctly.
  151.  
  152.       2) If you upgraded from Netscape Navigator PE version 2.X,
  153.          you must restart your entire computer after the installation 
  154.          process before you can connect to the network. The Install 
  155.          Wizard will restart Windows for you, but this is not the 
  156.          same as rebooting your whole system. To reboot, wait for 
  157.          Windows to come onscreen again, then close it down. At the 
  158.          DOS prompt, hit your reset button, or switch the power off 
  159.          and on again to reboot your computer.
  160.  
  161.       3) If you have configured Microsoft TCP/IP to use DNS (Domain 
  162.          Name Service), you may not be able to connect to other hosts 
  163.          through your Dial-Up Networking connection.  Your Dial-Up 
  164.          Networking connection contains its own fields for 
  165.          Concentric's name servers, which will be not be used if 
  166.          you have specified name servers in your Microsoft TCP/IP 
  167.          configuration.
  168.  
  169.          The Account Setup Wizard will warn you if you have 
  170.          configured Microsoft TCP/IP to use DNS.  If you see this 
  171.          warning, double-click the Getting Started icon in your 
  172.          Netscape Navigator program group, and read the topics on "DNS 
  173.          configuration" to either modify or disable DNS.
  174.  
  175.       4) In order to execute properly, Netscape uses a file called 
  176.          winsock.dll, a copy of which was installed in the c:\cncinet\
  177.          netscape directory on your system with this software. If you 
  178.          have more than one copy of winsock on your system, Netscape 
  179.          may not be able to tell which one to use. To find out if you 
  180.          have multiple copies of winsock on your system, and to learn 
  181.          how to disable redundant copies, follow these steps:
  182.  
  183.          a) Locate all copies of winsock.dll on your system. 
  184.             * Windows 3.x users, open the Main Program Group, and 
  185.               double click on the File Manager icon. Select 
  186.               File | Search, and type in winsock.dll
  187.             * Windows 95 users, click on the Start button, and select 
  188.               Programs | Windows Explorer. Select Tools | Find, and 
  189.               type in winsock.dll 
  190.          b) If the resulting list shows that you have more than one 
  191.             copy of winsock.dll on your system, you must rename the 
  192.             redundant copies to disable them. DO NOT RENAME THE 
  193.             WINSOCK.DLL FILE IN YOUR C:\CNCINET\NETSCAPE DIRECTORY. 
  194.             This is the one copy of the file that Netscape will need 
  195.             in order to execute properly.
  196.          c) In File Manager or Windows Explorer, locate a redundant 
  197.             winsock.dll file that is NOT in the c:\cncinet\netscape 
  198.             directory.
  199.          d) Highlight the winsock.dll file
  200.          e) From the File menu, select Rename
  201.          f) Rename the file: winsock.old
  202.          g) Repeat steps 3-6 for each redundant winsock.dll file, 
  203.             changing the name slightly each time to winsock2.old, 
  204.             winsock3.old, etc. DO NOT RENAME THE WINSOCK.DLL FILE 
  205.             IN YOUR C:\CNCINET\NETSCAPE DIRECTORY. 
  206.          h) Try connecting to Concentric Network again to see if 
  207.             this change resolved your problem.
