  5.      NETSCAN is a virus  detection and identification program
  6. for  local and  wide area  networks. NETSCAN  will search any
  7. networked  drive accessible  as a  DOS device,  searching the
  8. networked  drive(s)  for  known  viruses.  NETSCAN  works  by
  9. searching  the system  for instruction  sequences or patterns
  10. that are  unique to each  computer virus, and  then reporting
  11. their  presence if  found. NETSCAN  Version 89,  when used in
  12. conjunction  with the  VIRUSCAN program  on workstations, can
  13. identify   all  known   computer  virus   strains  and  their
  14. varieties. For a complete listing of viruses detected, please
  15. read the  accompanying VIRLIST.TXT file.  NETSCAN can be  run
  16. off of any workstation with 360Kb  and DOS 2.0 or above (Some
  17. options may require  DOS 3.1 or above). In  order for NETSCAN
  18. to  check  all  areas  of  the  server  for computer viruses,
  19. NETSCAN  should be  run under  an account  with global  read,
  20. write, and create privileges. NETSCAN works with 3Com 3/Share
  21. and 3/Open, Artisoft Lantastic, Novell NetWare, Banyan VINES,
  22. DEC DECNet, Microsoft LAN Manager,  PC/SA, and NFSNet as well
  23. as IBMNET and NETBIOS compatible  networks. If you do not see
  24. your network listed, contact McAfee Associates.

  29.      NETSCAN runs  a self-test when executed.  If NETSCAN has
  30. been modified  in any way,  a warning will  be displayed. The
  31. program will still continue to  check for viruses, though. If
  32. NETSCAN reports  that it has been  damaged, it is recommended
  33. that a clean copy be  obtained. NETSCAN versions 51 and above
  34. are  packaged  with  the   VALIDATE  program  to  ensure  the
  35. integrity   of   the   NETSCAN.EXE   file.  The  VALIDATE.DOC
  36. instructions  tell  how  to  use  the  VALIDATE  program. The
  37. VALIDATE  program distributed  with  NETSCAN  may be  used to
  38. check all further versions of NETSCAN.
