  5. Welcome to the world of Fortune Cookie.   This is a simple program for
  6. displaying and  editing quotations  or personal  sayings or  what have
  7. you.   This  is  perfect  for including  in  your  AUTOEXEC  file  for
  8. displaying a random fortune whenever you boot your system.
  9.                                                                           
  10. I've  always  enjoyed  collecting  famous  quotations  and  especially
  11. enjoyed the fortune cookie program on  the DEC MINI's like the PDP-11,
  12. so I decided to  write my own.  No, not in the tradition  of C, but in
  13. Turbo Pascal 5.5.

  16. With Fortune  Cookie, you can  add quotes  (or cookies) to  the cookie
  17. file,  you can  display a  certain cookie,  you can  display a  random
  18. cookie, you can send  you're cookie file to the printer,  you can kill
  19. the cookie file  (smash the cookie jar),  you can erase and  unerase a
  20. cookie, and  you can compress the  erased cookies (erasing  just marks
  21. them for deletion).

  24. This program is  small and should run  in 64K of memory.   I have 640K
  25. (as do most of us) so I haven't been able to test it on a machine with
  26. less memory  but I think it'll  work comfortably on any  PC Compatible
  27. these days.  It will run under DOS  2.0 or higher, maybe even 1.0, but
  28. I haven't  tested it below  DOS 2.   Although Fortune Cookie  will run
  29. from a floppy disk, a hard disk is preferable and much faster.
