A5Talk is designed to work even with password protection set on your machine, though there are some considerations to be taken into account if you have also set "Display owner information" on your machine.

AYou can use the dictation controls as usual by first pressing the dictation RECORD button once to initiate the dictation mode, and then record as usual. The PLAY button control will be handed over to the RECORD program until it is closed.
N.B. if "Display owner information" is set, 5Talk will first announce the time when the RECORD button is initially pressed.

BIf you have set "Display owner information" on your machine, (from control panel / passwords / Display owner information) then 5Talk will also announce the time upon switching on the S5 - as well as from the dictation PLAY button.
Not only that, it will also switch off your machine if no password is entered, (if set) or if the "Display owner information" screen is not removed by pressing a key! (there is a facility in the Preferences screen to delay switching off your machine to allow ample time for password entry)
N.B. When activating the dictation RECORD mode when "Display owner information" is set, 5Talk will first announce the time.

BSince 5Talk was programmed in OPL, there have been a few (not many!) compromises. Most notably is the alarm conflict if "Display owner information" has been set.
In this instance, if you have set an alarm to sound when the S5 is switched OFF, 5Talk will attempt to tell the time when the alarm sounds, and more often than not it will be cut short by the actual alarm sound. This is an OPL problem and cannot be avoided I'm afraid...
To counter this problem, you should enter your alarm times in the "Alarm times" screen (CTRL+T). This will prevent 5Talk from activating at the same times as your alarms, then choose "Use 'Alarm times'" from the preferences screen to enable this feature.

eAAs well as announcing the day and time, 5Talk will also flash the day and time on a readable display for a few seconds. You can also choose to have just the display without any announcements...
To "flash" the time, press the HotKey (CTRL+MENU key) when 5Talk is active, and when the Series 5 is switched on.

BAt 4:30am in the morning you would not want to announce the time if you had set the announcement volume to HIGH, so to prevent any heart attacks in the early hours(!) 5Talk provides a facility to automatically set the announcement volume to LOW between certain hours.
To do this press CTRL+K when the flash time is displayed and set the "begins" and "ends" times for the Nightime mode in the Preferences dialog.
N.B. Nightime mode only applies to the dictation PLAY button and power-on volume.

FYou can adjust 5Talk's settings to your own taste. To do this press CTRL+K whilst the flash time display is active, or tap on the 5Talk icon in the Extras bar once 5Talk has been activated.
Preferences include:
Announcement volume:
The announcement volume when the dictation PLAY button is pressed, or when the machine is switched on if "Display owner information" is set on your machine.
Flash volume:
Adjusts the announcement volume when the HotKey is pressed. Can also be set to "off".
Flash duration when volume is off:
Specifies how long the time should be displayed on screen if the flash volume is set to "off".
Beep before announcement:
Provides a short beep before the announcement is heard.
Trigger backlight with HotKey:
Whether or not the HotKey should turn the backlight on for the duration of the flash time display.
Nightime mode:
If a time is specified for the "begins" and "ends" parameters, then 5Talk will automatically announce at "low" volume between those times. If "Display owner information" is set on your machine, 5Talk will also trigger the backlight for the duration of the announcement.
'Owner information' display (seconds):
How long the "Display owner information" screen should be displayed before 5Talk switches off your machine after announcing the time. This is provided to allow enough time for password entry.
Auto-switch-off will be cancelled upon entering a password (if set) or if the "Display owner information" screen is removed by pressing a key.
Use 'Alarm times':
If "Display owner information" is set on your machine, then you should enter the times of your alarms in the "Alarm times" screen and check this checkbox to prevent any alarm conflicts.

This is no ordinary talking clock for the Series 5 - NO! Not only will it announce the day and time when the machine is ON, (via a designated HotKey) it will also announce the day and time when the machine is OFF!
