  7. Welcome to PocketChess for EPOC. PocketChess is
  8. a well featured chess playing program for your EPOC handheld.
  9. PocketChess offers a very simple, easy to use interface
  10. for playing chess, and best of all it is freeware!

  52. Installation/Upgrade procedure
  53. ------------------------------
  54. If upgrading then first make sure that PocketChess is not running.
  55.  
  56. The easiest and best way to install/upgrade is to use the SIS package. 
  57.  
  58. Otherwise, to install/upgrade manually do the following:
  59. The 12 distributed files are PKTCHESS.APP, PKTCHESS.RSC, PKTCHESS.AIF,
  60. OPEN.MVS, CHESS.HLP, README.TXT, LICENSE.TXT,
  61. CHECK.SND, MATE.SND, PROMOTE.SND, CAPTURE.SND, 
  62. PBOARD.MBM, PBOARDALT.MBM, PBOARDSMALL.MBM, PBOARDALTS.MBM
  63.  
  64. 1) Make sure you can see the System folder on the Psion by using the check box
  65.    in the System menu -> Tools -> Preferences -> Show 'System' folder.
  66. 2) If you are upgrading then delete everything in C:\SYSTEM\APPS\PKTCHESS\ 
  67.    then go to step 4.
  68. 3) Create a new folder called 'PKTCHESS' under C:\SYSTEM\APPS 
  69.    thus C:\SYSTEM\APPS\PKTCHESS (or on a CF card: D:\SYSTEM\APPS\PKTCHESS).
  70. 4) Copy all the files from the distribution to this folder with PsiWin.
  71. 5) Now you should see the 'Chess' Icon in the Extra Toolbar.

  74. General Notes
  75. -------------
  76. You can call the online help from the "Tools" menu for further explanations.

  78. The default chess piece set is shaded, an alternative plainer but clearer
  79. set is available when you select "TOOLS/ALTERNATE PIECES" from the menus.
