  7. INTRODUCTION

  9. FlWorld is an alternative interface for the world time
  10. functions of the built-in Time application.
  11.  
  12. Features include...

  14.   o  Display current time in up to six cities chosen
  15.      from the Time application's database.

  17.   o  World time-zone map with areas of day and night.

  19.   o  Photo-realistic moon-phase display.

  28. FlWorld is Charityware; free to download and use, for an
  29. indefinite period, but if you like it you are invited to
  30. make a small donation to a charity of your choice. See
  31. online help within the application for more information.

  34. INSTALLATION
  35.  
  36. IMPORTANT NOTE
  37.      If you are upgrading from a version of FlWorld prior
  38.      to version 4.0, your existing FlWorld settings
  39.      documents will be automatically upgraded when you
  40.      open them. However, attempting to load the new
  41.      documents in an older version of FlWorld may not 
  42.      work.

  44. To install this software on your machine:
  45.  
  46.   1) Close ALL applications on your EPOC device.
  47.  
  48.      If you do not close all applications before
  49.      installing the SIS package in the next step,
  50.      you may have problems with OPM versions later.
  51.  
  52.   2) Install the main application SIS file:
  53.      
  54.        FlWorld.sis
  55.      
  56.   3) If you wish to try the supplied sample FlWorld
  57.      document files, copy them into any document folder
  58.      on your machine. The samples are contained in
  59.      "samples.zip" and named as follows:
  60.      
  61.        Africa
  62.        Americas
  63.        Asia
  64.        Australasia
  65.        Europe
  66.        MiddleEast
  67.        USA
  68.  
  69.      See below for more information about these samples.
  70.  
  71.   4) Finally, look in the "Extras" draw on the machine
  72.      for the new "FlWorld" icon, in the normal manner.
  73.  
  74. NOTES:
  75.  
  76.   *  Please consult the manuals for your device for
  77.      details of installing applications packaged in SIS
  78.      files. You will require a PC or Mac running your
  79.      EPOC connect software (i.e. PsiWin 2 or equivalent)
  80.      or the "Add/Remove" icon on the control panel of
  81.      your EPOC device. Double-clicking on the SIS file
  82.      either on the EPOC device or on the PC/Mac connected
  83.      to the EPOC device should do the trick.
  84.      
  85.   *  The supplied OPXs are for ARM-based machines, such
  86.      as the Series 5, Revo, Osaris, Geofox 1, Series 5mx,
  87.      Series 7, etc. If you wish to run this application
  88.      on the Windows EPOC emulator then please contact the
  89.      respective OPX authors, Symbian Ltd and Neuon (web
  90.      addresses below), for the appropriate versions.
  91.  
  92.   *  OPXs are special resources that may be shared by
  93.      many different applications on the EPOC device. If
  94.      these applications do not deliver the OPXs correctly
  95.      in the standard SIS files, they may cause problems
  96.      with other applications when they are installed, or
  97.      even uninstalled. If you find that this application
  98.      fails to start after installing or uninstalling
  99.      another application, perhaps reporting a missing or
  100.      invalid OPX file, please try reinstalling this
  101.      application using the instructions above. This
  102.      should correct the problem.

  105. UNINSTALLING
  106.  
  107. If you have finished with this software you can remove
  108. the application as follows:
  109.  
  110.   1)  Make sure the FlWorld application is not running.
  111.  
  112.   2)  Delete any saved FlWorld settings documents that
  113.       you no longer require.
  114.   
  115.   3)  Using the "Add/Remove" icon on the EPOC control
  116.       panel, remove the "FlWorld" application.
  117.  
  118. After you have completed these steps, FlWorld will have
  119. been removed from your machine's memory and "Extras" bar.
  120.

  122. BASIC USE
  123.  
  124. FlWorld is simple to use. The display consists of up to
  125. six clocks, displaying the time in different cities.
  126. Up to five displays are available:
  127.  
  128.   Wall clocks
  129.      Displays one or two rows of clocks with additional
  130.      information for each city.
  131.    
  132.   World map
  133.      A map outlines the time zones of the world, the
  134.      location of the currently selected city and
  135.      (optionally) the areas of the world currently in
  136.      darkness. When screen area allows, the area under
  137.      the map shows the time and details of the currently
  138.      selected city and the current phase of the moon.
  139.      A column of smaller clocks for each city configured
  140.      appears to the left of the screen. 
  141.  
  142.   Large clock
  143.      A version of the World map display with a larger
  144.      clock for the selected city.
  145.      Note: This display is not available on large screen
  146.      devices as the standard World map display includes
  147.      a large clock, anyway.
  148.    
  149.   Armillary sundials
  150.      A timeline display, representing the scales of
  151.      armillary sundials. The time in each city is
  152.      represented by a clock and the 'shadow' of the
  153.      sundial. The scales are aligned to allow easy
  154.      comparison of the times in each city, and can also
  155.      show both the working hours and the hours of
  156.      darkness.

  158.   Large digital
  159.      An extra large digital clock displays the time in
  160.      the current city, selected from the list of smaller
  161.      clocks to the right.
  162.  
  163. Note that the displays adapt to the available screen
  164. area on your device. Some features will be different or
  165. unavailable on some machines.
  166.  
  167. All displays respond to the pen. Try tapping things and
  168. see what happens.
  169.  
  170. You can configure the displays using the "Preferences..."
  171. and "View preferences..." menu options and select
  172. different cities from your machine's built-in world
  173. database, with the "Choose cities..." option.

  179. SAMPLES
  180.  
  181. When first started, FlWorld attempts to find a selection
  182. of cities from around the world, which you can then
  183. tailor to suit your needs. However, the ZIP distribution
  184. includes some additional sample FlWorld document files,
  185. each containing a (pretty arbitrary) selection of cities
  186. in a general geographical area. If you install these
  187. files, you can simply click on the document on the
  188. System screen to display the set of cities you wish to
  189. display.
  190.  
  191. You can use FlWorld documents to organise different sets
  192. of cities in any way you wish. For example, you could
  193. create one document for work and another for friends and
  194. family.
  195.  
  196. NOTE: The samples use the English (UK) spelling of city
  197.      names and so some cities may fail to display on
  198.      other language machines. If this happens when you
  199.      open the sample file, simply correct the spelling
  200.      for your own language, or enter a different
  201.      city name.
