OPXscan can provide you with two different lists of results:
A list of OPX files found
A list of programs found
Both lists are arranged in alphabetical order and contain further information.
OPX files: This list includes all of the OPX files found and indicates if they are still needed on your machine (files which are no longer needed can be deleted). For every OPX file found you can also view a list of the programs which use it.
Programs: This list contains all programs which use OPX files. By selecting the Info button you can obtain a list of which OPXs are required by that program, including the minimum version number of each OPX which should be installed.

Beside viewing results on screen you can also print them. Both lists (OPXs and Programs) are always printed on separate sheets.
You can use a printer that is directly connected with your device or print via a PC.
Further information about printing can be found in the handbook which came with your EPOC device.
Before deleting OPX files it is recommended you have a PC backup of the data on your EPOC device, just in case anything goes wrong.
To guarantee that no program needs the OPX you plan to delete, a current scan with the path option in Preferences set to All should be made.
If after doing such a scan an OPX is still marked as Not needed then it is probably safe to delete it in order to save space.
Note: OPX files on the Z: drive (ROM) cannot be deleted.

Search for programs: This lets you define in which folders OPXscan searches for programs. These paths will be applied to all drives.
Scan on start-up: If ticked, the scan procedure will be carried out each time you start OPXscan but the results will not be saved.
View after scanning: If ticked, the list (of Programs or OPX files) will be displayed immediately after each scan completes.
Allow deleting: To delete OPX files from within OPXscan this option must be ticked.
Save lists: You can use this option to save the scan results. It is recommended that you carry out a new scan after every program installation or upgrade to ensure the results are accurate.

OPX files support the integrated OPL programming language. They contain procedures which extend the possibilities of OPL. They are written in C++ and allow access to lower level areas of the system.
During installation of applications OPXs almost always get installed correctly. However, in some circumstances problems of the following type may occur:
Multiple copies of OPXs which have different versions may end up on different drives
Uninstallation of applications can sometimes lead OPXs being removed too, even though they are stil required by other applications on the machine.
OPXscan checks all applications installed on your device and offers you:
Information about all applications which use each OPX.
Information about all existing OPX files found.
The possibility to delete OPX file which are duplicates or are no longer needed.
The scan results are provided in two lists (OPX and Programs) which can either be displayed on screen or printed.

Try to ensure that every OPX file exists on your machine only once (and preferably as the latest version).
To ensure programs always work and minimise the risk of version conflicts, always try and install OPXs onto the same drive. If you already have OPXs on D:\, you can move all OPX files to C:\System\OPX\ manually.
Normally, setting the Preference of Search path to just
System
is sufficient. However, be aware that *.OPO programs can be saved in any location, not just inside the \System\ folder. For extra accuracy, select the
option before beginning a scan. This will ensure the scan process searches through all folders on all drives.
The background picture can be switched on and off with a simple pen-tap in the upper left corner of the screen.
Note: You're advised to keep regular PC backups of all data on your device in case of problems with OPX installations.
