  39. SwitchOn Pro comes with a number of built-in sound files. The start-up sound can be changed by selecting the Choose Sound option from the Files menu. To change the warning sound used when power is lost select the Power Lost Sound option from the Files menu.
  40. The selected sound files will be saved and used in the future.
  41. SwitchOn Pro is a small utility which runs in the background of your system.
  42. SwitchOn Pro features two main information screens. The status screen provides an information window together with a task bar. Information displayed includes memory in use, battery status, backlight, sound and external link status. A screenshot of the status screen from a Psion Revo together with the task bar is featured below:
  43. The task buttons are fully configurable and allow you to view and switch to all open programmes.
  44. The other main view is the agenda screen. This view displays on a single page forthcoming entries in an agenda file of your choice.

SwitchOn Pro can be run from the Extras bar or by double tapping the app file. If SwitchOn Pro is running in the background it can be brought to the foreground by pressing the hotkey (Ctrl-q), or tapping the System silk screen button. Once in the foreground SwitchOn Pro displays the status window.
  62. On launch SwitchOn Pro can play a sound file of your choice and switch on the backlight. Both of these options can be selected through the Preferences menu.
  63. Three seconds after launching, or at any time after tapping outside the status window, SwitchOn Pro will switch to the background.

  101. There are three battery indicators in the status window:
  102.     Main battery
  103.      Back-up battery
  104.     Power source
  105. The main battery icon shows the state of the main battery and where applicable the back-up battery icon shows the status of the backup battery. Both indicate the charge level of the battery from full to empty. The figures under each battery measure the battery charge level.
  106. The power source icon shows whether external power is present or if the system is running on the main battery.
  107. You can adjust the values used to indicate the battery charge levels by selecting the Battery option on the Preferences menu..

  190.         Switched off - your Psion cannot connect to any other device.
  191.         Switched on off-line - the eternal link is on but no link has been established.
  192.         Switched on online - a link has been established with an external device. You can now transfer data (e.g backup to your PC).

  219. The agenda view displays your agenda entries on one page. You can select which type of entries are shown and the period over which entries are included in the view.
  220. The page is scrollable with cursor keys and/or with the pointer. Clicking on the upper half of the screen scrolls to the top and the lower half to the bottom. There are three zoom levels available.
  221. There are two ways of viewing the agenda screen:
  222. tick the "show agenda at switch on" option on the Switch on item in the Preferences menu.
  223. tapping on the calendar icon in the status window.
  224. Once either of these options has been selected SwitchOn Pro will scan and display agenda file. To close the agenda view press the Esc key.
  225. Note that when returning to the agenda view in the same session SwitchOn Pro will not re-scan the agenda file. To manually  update the agenda view select Re-scan Agenda on the Tools menu.

  268. On the top right a small lamp symbol indicates the backlight status. Clicking on the icon changes the backlight setting.

  271.  By clicking on the speaker icon you can toggle the sound setting between on and off. Remember that no alarm sounds can be played whilst the sound is switched off.

  273.  You can easily adjust the screen contrast with the pointer by clicking on the + or - symbols. Each click will raise or lower the contrast by 1 unit.

  286. The Agenda dialogue on the Preferences menu gives you a large amount of scope to customise SwitchOn Pro.
  287. The dialogue allows you to select which type of agenda entries are scanned into the SwitchOn Pro agenda view and whether the entries are displayed in one or two columns, with or without icons. Other options available in this dialogue are the zoom level used in the agenda view and whether to display the names of to-do lists or not.
  288. In addition to the main dialogue panel there are a number of buttons that lead to more options.
  289. Selecting the Scan days button allows you to select the period over which future entries, by type of entry, are scanned into the agenda view. The Scan days dialogue also allows you to set SwitchOn Pro to automatically re-scan the agenda file, and if so, how often.
  290. The Select priority button brings up a dialogue which enables you to filter the display of to-do entries according to their priority number. All entries with the filter priority number or higher will be shown. A different priority number can be selected for each separate to-do list.

  321. The Switch on dialogue on the Preferences menu allows you to customise SwitchOn Pro's behaviour when your device is switched on.
  322. You can set the the period of time that SwitchOn Pro should stay in the foreground before automatically switching  to the background. Inputting zero disables the switch to background feature. In this case SwitchOn Pro will stay in the foreground until a key, or the screen outside of the active window, has been pressed.
  323. Other settings available from the Switch on dialogue are the volume of the sound played at switch on and the option of whether the agenda view is displayed at switch on or not.

  410. Tapping on the D: drive disk icon opens a dialogue showing all possible virtual drives enabling you to choose a drive and substitute it to a path of your choice.
  411. This will now appear in all other SwitchOn Pro programmes allowing you to easily jump to your favourite directory.

The Battery option on the Preferences menu enables you to adjust the levels used for on the battery gauges in the status window. This is done by inputting a specific voltage. e.g. If you set the value for the main batteries full level to 2.8, this means that the battery icon for the main battery will show a full battery until the voltage has dropped below 2.8 Volts.
  415. The nightclock option enables you to use your device as a convenient night-time clock. To use the nightclock tick the "use nightclock" option on the Nightclock dialogue which is on the Preferences menu.
  416. The nightclock dialogue panel enables you to restrict this function between any two times of your choice.
  417. When in nightclock mode SwitchOn Pro displays a large clock together with the backlight when your device is switched on. All sounds are switched off when nightclock mode is running.
  418. In nightclock mode SwitchOn Pro will automatically turn the system off instead of switching to background after the usual delay period. By pressing the spacebar the delay can be over-ridden.

  435. The Backlight dialogue on the Preferences menu enables you to either set the backlight permanently on or off, or to use the backlight under certain specific circumstances. For example, you can set SwitchOn Pro to turn the backlight on between two set times.

  454. The Guard dialogue on the Preferences menu, allows you to set SwitchOn Pro to turn off the external link whenever external power is lost and to switch the external link on when an external power source has been connected.

  468. SwitchOn Pro features a task bar allowing you to view and switch to all open programmes. The task bar and associated task buttons are fully configurable.
  469. The Taskbuttons dialogue on the Preferences menu contains a large number of fields which are detailed below:
  470. The "show task buttons" field allows you to set the task bar to display horizontally, vertically or to switch the bar off.
  471. The X and Y offset fields allow you to specify the distance to display task bar from the top left of the screen.
  472. The height and width of the task buttons and the font and font style used in the buttons can all be adjusted in this dialogue.
  473. You can select whether to display the programme icons in the task buttons and the quality of that display. On slower machines it is recommended not to display the programme icons. Further details are available by clicking the help button in this dialogue screen.
  474. Clicking the advanced button brings up two options. You can select to display file names in place of application names on the task bar buttons. The other option regards "deleting temporary files on exit". This is explained below.
  475. When switching on SwitchOn Pro for the first time, there will be a few seconds delay whilst SwitchOn Pro scans in all of the installed applications icons. Naturally, the more applications you have installed, the longer the scan takes.
  476. Clicking the advanced button gives an option of "deleting temporary files on exit". Although this will save some memory, under usual circumstances this option is not recommended since it means SwitchOn Pro will scan for new icons each time it is launched.
  477. You can manually update SwitchOn Pro's store of application icons at any time by selecting the Update icons option on the Tools menu. This should be used when  you have installed new software after the initial scan for icons has run.

  511. You can customise some general SwitchOn Pro features through the General dialogue on the Preferences menu.
  512. You can change the refresh rate used when SwitchOn Pro is running in the foreground and background. This tells SwitchOn Pro how often it should redraw the screen and check for alterations (e.g. changes in battery and memory usage). The less frequent the refresh rate (i.e. a higher input value) the lower the battery consumption. If you select to refresh frequently (i.e. under one second), consumption will grow heavily.

Other options allow you to select the display position of the status window and change the predefined hotkey (the default is Ctrl-q) to any key of your choice. In addition you can also change or switch off the silkscreen hotkey used to switch to SwitchOn Pro (the default is the System button).
