  31. Requires Psion Series 5 or compatible with approximately 200k of free
  32. system memory to run in.

  34. Psi-Mapper/London is shareware and 100% fully working. This does not
  35. make it a free program! Yes, you can copy it freely to friends or
  36. acquaintances, or even upload the original ZIP file to ftp sites,
  37. bulletin boards, but if you like it and continue to use it, then you are
  38. honour-bound to register the program by sending me a cheque for ú14
  39. (pounds).

  41. Registration gets you:
  42. a) a clear conscience that you're using paid-for software, and that
  43.    you're helping support future development of the program and other
  44.    quality Psion shareware software.
  45. b) a special code that will personalise your copy of Psi-Mapper/London,
  46.    and remove the opening shareware screen. No need to re-install the
  47.    software, just use the registration menu option and type in the code!

  50. This text file documents the history of the program, its installation,
  51. and some of the more technical aspects to running it. For general help
  52. in using and understanding Psi-Mapper/London, please browse through the
  53. *extensive* on-line help. The on-line help is the only documentation of
  54. most of Psi-Mapper/London's features, so work through it properly! 8-)

  58. This is Psi-Mapper/London, released as shareware. The program and
  59. concept are (C) 1997 Steve Litchfield. With the exception of the road
  60. data, all data sets are public domain and were collated using public
  61. domain and other freely available reference works, and data gathered
  62. from privately-owned GPS units. Data sets remain the copyright and
  63. responsibility of the original contributors. No liability whatsoever
  64. can be accepted for any inaccuracies in this program or any of its data
  65. sets.

  72. Installation
  73. ============
  74. If you unzipped MAP5LO30.ZIP OK, you should have ended up with
  75. 2 files. One will be this text file 8-)
  76.  
  77. The other is an SIS file.
  78.  
  79. (Experts)
  80. If you know what a .SIS file is, just double-click on each one in Win95 Explorer
  81. or tap on it on the Series 5 and you'll be installed in no time.
  82.  
  83. (Beginners)
  84. If you *don't* know what a .SIS file is, this must be one of the very first
  85. third party applications you've ever installed. Don't worry, it's all quite 
  86. painless:
  87.  
  88.   IF you have the 'older' PsiWin 2.01 or if you've downloaded Psi-Mapper/London directly
  89.   onto the Psion 5, the best way to proceed is to copy the "mapperlo.sis" file into a
  90.   suitable place on your Psion. If the file appears on the system screen
  91.   with a question mark beside it, this just means you haven't yet upgraded your
  92.   Series 5 to accept EPOC install files. Grab a copy of the special INSTEXE.EXE
  93.   program from the same place as you obtained Psi-Mapper/London and tap on it on your Psion.
  94.   You should now see a nice little icon beside the "mapperlo.sis" file and can tap
  95.   on it to complete your installation.

  97.   IF you have PsiWin 2.1, just double-click on the "mapperlo.sis" file to launch
  98.   EPOC Install on the PC itself and to complete the installation of the program.

  100. If all went well, you should now have a new "MapperLo" icon on your
  101. Extras bar.
  102.  
  103. For the technically-minded, Psi-Mapper/London and its overlays etc. will
  104. end up in \System\Apps\MapperLo on your chosen disk.

  108. In this distribution are the following overlays, Contributor information
  109. also included where known or appropriate.

  111. Vector overlays (i.e. lines and labels) (Thanks to Tony Crocker for
  112. contributing these)

  114. RAILTRAK.MP8  - a vector overlay of the main-line railway routes
  115. TUBELINE.MP8  - a vector overlay of all the tube lines, laid out
  116.                 properly (i.e. geographically, not diagrammatically)
  117. TUBEZONE.MP8  - a vector overlay of the tube charge zones
  118.  
  119. Optional item overlays (i.e. specific points and labels and reference
  120. info, note that some of them cover the whole M25 area and others just
  121. the central "A-Z" area):

  148. Notes:
  149. 1) Each of the .MP7 overlays listed above has an associated .MBM file of
  150. the same name. These are the on-screen icons for overlays, and will be
  151. used if present in the main \System\Apps\MapperLo folder. If they are not
  152. present, a default 'star' icon will be used ....
  153.  
  154. 2) Each of the overlays includes reference information for each item (for
  155. example, telephone contact numbers), and this can be displayed by
  156. turning 'Overlay Reference Fields' On.
  157.  
  158. 3) Whether using the supplied vector overlays or contributing your own,
  159. please note the low (100m) resolution used by Psi-Mapper/London. It's
  160. no good expecting or drawing every last detail, as the resulting data
  161. file size would be far too large. The Psi-Mapper vector overlays are
  162. *approximate* representations only of the real world, and should not be
  163. taken as gospel!

  166. Editing your custom place database & custom item overlays
  167. ---------------------------------------------------------
  168. Although the program allows you to add places and items, you'll need to
  169. use the supplied CustomEd.opo utility to do editing of your custom
  170. places file or other overlays, i.e. for deleting mistakes and unwanted
  171. entries. This functionality *may* be added into the main program in due
  172. course.

  175. Printing or grabbing a current map screen
  176. ------------------------------------------
  177. You may well want to grab a map screen as a standard picture file,
  178. for including in WORD, printing or editing using SKETCH. Grabbing the
  179. Series 5 screen is done with pressing 'Control', 'Shift', 'Fn' and 'S'
  180. simultaneously (it's easier to do than it sounds) and lo and behold a
  181. dialog will appear asking where you want the graphic file to be
  182. created. You can then use SKETCH's 'import EPOC picture file' function
  183. to use the graphic in other ways on your Series 5.

  185. Small print:
  186. ------------
  187. 1) Reverse engineering of the program is strictly forbidden. Attempts to
  188.    try and 'crack' the methods used by me to protect Psi-MAPPER from
  189.    reverse translation are also forbidden. If you would like to create a
  190.    complementary program and use my data-sets, then please get in touch
  191.    with me!

  195.    registration code.

  197. 3) If you give Psi-Mapper to a friend (as is encouraged with shareware!),
  198.    then do *not* give your friend your MAPPERLO.REG registration file, as
  199.    this is unique to you and contains *your* name, and subsequent
  200.    piracy will tell the world who started the outbreak!

  202. 4) Thanks to all the testers and contributors out there, who have supplied
  203.    ideas, support, bug-reports, data, code fragments etc. You are too
  204.    numerous to mention! If *you* find a bug or spot an error etc in any
  205.    of the overlays, then please get in touch!

  207. 5) Disclaimer: I accept no responsibility for anything happening to you
  208.    as a result of inaccurate information within Psi-Mapper! I try to
  209.    keep the overlays up-to-date as possible, but that is as far as my
  210.    liability goes!

  213.    while looking at your Psion, don't blame me!!
