  13. 1.  INTRODUCTION
  14.  
  15. Thanyou for trying Klax5, the latest arcade-puzzle game available for the
  16. EPOC-32 based system (Psion Series 5 + GeoFox 1).
  17.  
  18. Klax5 is (surprisingly) a version of the classic game "Klax" which people have
  19. been getting addicted to over the last decade or so.

  22. 2.  INSTALLATION
  23.  
  24. A folder called "Klax5" should be created within the "\System\Apps" folder on
  25. the Series 5.  It should be possible to install to a compact flash disk (Drive
  26. "D") instead, but this hasn't been tested.
  27.  
  28. All of the files from this archive should then be copied to this folder, with
  29. the sound effects remaining in the "SFX" directory.
  30.  
  31. The Control file "Klax5.ctl" is also included for use on the PC if you are using PSISETUP
  32. (PSISETUP is a PC-based auto-installation program, available from http://www.rmrsoft.com/)

  35. 3.  USAGE
  36.  
  37. Once installed, the icon for Klax5 should appear on the extras bar.  Just
  38. click on this to run the program.
  39.  
  40. Once the program has started, you can start a game by either:
  41.  o pressing "Ctrl+N"
  42.  o Selecting "New Game" from the "Game" menu
  43.  o Clicking on the "New" button on the toolbar
  44.  
  45. You will then be presented with the warp-screen menu.  This appears once every
  46. 5 waves (levels), letting you choose how much further in the game you want to
  47. go.

  49. After selecting a wave, the game starts.  A message appears at the beginning of
  50. each level in the top-right hand corner of the screen, giving you a hint at how
  51. to become better at Klax5.
  52.  
  53. By default, the paddle that you control uses the following keys:
  54.  Left Arrow  - Move the paddle to the left
  55.  Right Arrow - Move the paddle to the right
  56.  Up Arrow    - Flip the uppermost tile on the paddle back onto the slide
  57.  Down Arrow  - Slide all of the tiles down quicker
  58.  Space Bar   - Drop the uppermost tile on the paddle onto the grid below
  59.  
  60. These keys can all be redefined on the Configuration screen, which can be
  61. accessed from the toolbar / menu system.

  63. PLAYING KLAX5:  The idea of the game is simple.  You must stop all of the tiles
  64. from the slide from falling off.  To do this, you move your paddle underneath
  65. them to catch them.  Your paddle can only hold 5 tiles though.  To get rid of
  66. tiles completely you must drop them onto the grid below and get 3 or more in a 
  67. row of the same pattern.  This can either be vertically, horizontally, or
  68. diagonally.

  70. To the right of the screen are the level details: What type of level you are on
  71. and what you have left to do to finish the level.
  72. The level types are as follows:
  73.  o Klax - any 3, 4 or 5 in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally
  74.  o Diagonal - any 3, 4 or 5 in a row diagonally
  75.  o Horizontal - any 3, 4 or 5 in a row horizontally
  76.  o Points - You must get Klaxes up to a certain number of points (Diagonal
  77.             and horizontal klaxes are worth more, as are 4 & 5 in a row
  78.             klaxes)
  79.  o Tile - You must survive a certain number of tiles falling from the top
  80.           of the screen.

  82. The number you have left to get is displayed below the level type.
  83.           
  84. Depending on what level you are on, you have wither 3, 4 or 5 lives.  These are
  85. shown as the lights next to the paddle.  As you lose a life, one of the lights
  86. goes out.  When all of the lights go out you can either retry the level or
  87. start the game again.

  89. Once playing, the game can be paused from either the toolbar or menu system.

  92. 4.  DELETION

  94. To delete Klax5, just delete the Klax5 folder from where it is installed to
  95. ("\System\Apps").

  105. 6.  DETAILS

  107. Klax5 is shareware.  This means that if you like it, and play it beyond a trial
  108. period (a couple of weeks or so), that you should register it.
  109.  
  110. To do this, either fill in the form included in the "Register.Frm" file
  111. included, or send a cheque for รบ10 sterling to the address at the end of this
  112. file.  Please also include your name (as the registration code you are given
  113. depends on it), and your e-mail address to send the registration code to.
  114. If you do not have e-mail access, please include your home address.
