Hi there :-) If you are reading this message, then you are obviously evaluating vMEMO - I hope you enjoy the program and find it as useful as I do !!

vMEMO is what I like to call "a reminder program with a difference!" The reason for this is because vMEMO fully integrates itself with your Agenda file as well as your Message Suite Email inbox.
One of the great mysteries of the current age, is "Why do people keep on using third party 'jotter type' software to organise and remind them of important events, when there is a perfectly adequate, if not the most suited program already built in to the Psion itself?" I am of course referring to the Agenda application. This app was designed for memos, appointments etc, and this is my most used app on the Psion.
Hence vMEMO was born!! I wanted to write an app that fully complements the excellent Agenda, and provides the user (ie: you) with a quick and efficient method to record important appointments, set alarms, send emails, read unread emails, and even remind you of Voice memos.
When you first start up vMEMO, you will be greeted with a series of Configuration dialogs which you must complete before you can use vMEMO. The configurations are detailed below:
1) Voice note configuration
You will be asked to select your Voice Note file by selecting the relevant drive, folder and finally the file, and then pressing ENTER.
** Make sure that before you start vMEMO that all the OPX's and OXH's are installed in the correct folder, as well as making sure that Mesage Suite is installed. If one of these are not installed at all, or not in the right folder, vMEMO will produce an error message, and then exit **
2) Agenda configuration
Once you have completed the configuration setting for your voice note, it is now time to configure the agenda settings. A dialog box will automatically pop-up, asking you to choose your Agenda file. This is done in the same way as for the Voice Note file as shown above.
Once both of the above settings have been configured, vMEMO will load the default settings and, if all goes according to plan :-), the main vMEMO screen will startup, and you can now proceed to use vMEMO.
Alerter is a power-on utility which searches your specified drive for your voice note file. Once found, it will establish whether there is a voice message contained therein, and then present you with a dialog box (Or splash screen - depending on your configuration) where you have the choice of either playing the voice note, or sending Alerter into the background where it will reside until you switch-on your Psion again.
To ENABLE Alerter, press the menu key, click on the heading "vMEMO", click on "Alerter", and then click on "Enable". The screen will then go blank for a split second, and then you will be greeted with a notificaton message in the bottom right-hand corner stating "Alerter now ENABLED". At this point, Alerter is now ready and waiting to perform its duties!!
To DISABLE Alerter, press the menu key, click on the heading "vMEMO", click on "Alerter", and then click on "Disable". You will be presented with a notification message in the bottom-right hand corner stating "Alerter now DISABLED". If however Alerter was already disabled, vMEMO will simply notify you that Alerter was already disabled. Likewise with Enabling Alerter.
As was said above, vMEMO's main feature is its full integration with the Agenda application. To access all of vMEMO's Agenda functions, press the Menu key, click "Utilities",click "Agenda". Here you will have the option of setting a Day entry, to-do entry, event, viewing the number of to-do's pending, and changing the Agenda configuration.
To create a day entry, to-do entry and/or event, just click on the relevant option on the menu, and a dialog box will appear, asking you for the relevant information. Fill out the necessary fields and then press the "Save" key. If you want to set an alarm to the entry, click the "More" button, and then fill out the alarm details. Once complete, press the ENTER key to send the entry to your Agenda file. If at any stage you want to abort the process, just press the ESC key.
To see how many "vMEMO" to-do's are pending, just click the relevant option from the menu. To clear the resulting dialog box, just press a key.
To change the Agenda setup, press the Menu key, click "Utilities", click "Agenda", and then click "Change Agenda Configuration". You will now be presented with the same dialog box that greeted you at the initial startup. To change the Agenda file, just re-select the new Agenda file from the relevant areas and then press ENTER. Again, if you want to abort the process at any time, just press the ESC key.
To setup Alerter to work as you want it, press the Menu key, click on "vMEMO", click "Configuration", and then click "Change". Here you will be greeted with the initial dialog box asking for the voice note file. The original file setting you setup at the initial launch of vMEMO, should be shown in this dialog box. If it is correct - leave it !! If not then change it in the same way as stated in the Initial startup section.
At this point you might want to change some other settings of Alerter such as sound and view.
To do this, click the "More" button, and you will now be presented with another dialog box with some more "Cosmetic" setting to choose from. These include:
1) Playback volume
You can set this option from Low to Medium to High. Note that this only refers to the playback of the Notification tune as well as the Voice Note.
2) Splash screen on Alert
This refers to the way in which Alerter visibly displays the "Alert" message. If you check this option, a rather snazzy pictures will greet you every time you switch on your Psion. If it is unchecked, a normal dialog box will greet you instead.
3) Play wve on Alert
Here Alerter will play a tune to notify you of a pending voice note if this option is checked. If it is unchecked, no tune will be played.
4) Sound BEEP on Alert
Here Alerter will sound a BEEP to notify you of a pending voice note if checked. If this option is unchecked, no beep will be sounded.
** Please note that you cannot set both the wve file and the beep to sound on Alert. vMEMO will automatically re-adjust if this event happens **
Once you are satisfied with these settings, press ENTER
to save the settings.
Remember that if you want to abort the process at any time, just press the ESC key.
To view these settings at any time, press the Menu key, click "vMEMO", click "Configuration", and then click "View".
As well as being fully integrated with Agenda, vMEMO is also fully integrated with the Psion's built in Alarm system containing 8 alarms.
1) To set an alarm
To set an alarm, press the menu key, click "Utilities",click "Alarm2 and then click "Add alarm". Here vMEMO will retrieve info from the alarm system, and then display all the available alarm numbers for you to choose from. Press ENTER, and you will be greeted with an "Add alarm" dialog box. Select the number you want, and then fill out all the other relevant info pertainin to your alarm. Once you are satisfied as to the alarm settings, press a key to save the alarm. You can check that the alarm has been saved correctly by tapping on the TIME application, and then view the settings for the alarm you have just creates.
If you want to abort this process at any stage, just press the ESC key.
** Please note that if you select an alarm number that relates to an existing alarm, the existing one will be replaced **
2) To delete an Alarm
Select the "Delete Alarm" from the Alarm option under the "Utilities" menu. You will now see a dialog box showing the alarm numbes that currently contain an alarm. Select the relevant alarm number, and then press ENTER
to delete. If you want to check which number relates to which alarm, just tap the TIME application, and count down from the top of the alarm screen to the alarm you want to delete.
If you want to abort this situation at any time just press the ESC key.
vMEMO has a tight integration with the Email application that comes with the Message Suite program from Psion. You can send an email, view unread email, see how many unread emails are pending, as well as send detais of the unread emails to your agenda as a day or to-do entry. Full details are shown below:
1) Send an Email
Press the menu key, click on "Utilities", click "Email and then click "Send Email. An email compilation box will pop-up, enabling you to type your message, subject and email address. Once you are done, press the "Send to outbox" button, and vMEMO will send the message to your email outbox awaiting you to dialup to your ISP. Please note that vMEMO has to open up your Email program in order to send the message, but the whole process will only take a couple of seconds at the most.
2) Unread email services
Click the relevant option from the menu. vMEMO will now retrieve information concerning Unread emails from your Email inbox and list these details on an easy-to-use selection screen. The details shown are a) The message Index number (Don't really need to pay attention to this :-), b) The sender's email address and c) the subject of the message. Here you can use the UP and DOWN
keys to select the relevant email message. Once you have selected the one you want, just press the Menu key to perform the action you want, or if you want to read the email, just press the ENTER key. A dialog box holding the message part of the email will pop-up. Use the arrow keys or the scroll bar to read the message, and then press any other key, such as ENTER to exit the dialog box and return to the selection screen.
The menu options consist of a) Returning to the vMEMO main screen, b)reading an email [Detailed above], and c) Sending details on the currently selected email to the agenda as a day or to-do entry. If there are no unread emails, then vMEMO will notify you of that fact.
Sending details of an email to agenda is a very handy feature. vMEMO's automatically generated text for the agenda entry is as follows:
"Remember to reply to 'Email' - email@address - 'Subject' - Subject.
Where email@address and subject are the actual details grabbed from the selection listing. You are however still able to edit this message to your liking. Once done, the finalising of the agenda entry is the same as described in the AGENDA section.
Last of all you are able to see at a glance just how many unread emails are in your inbox. to do this, all you have to do is select the "Number of Unread Emails" from the "Email" heading under the "Utitility" menu. To clear the dialog, just press a key.
A list of some of the features that will be incorporated in the future versions of vMEMO are listed below:
1) Alerter will be enhanced to include a check of how many pending To-do's, unread emails and faxes are sitting in memory.
2) A graphical jotter will be incorporated into vMEMO, and possibly the embedding of these jots into the agenda file
3) The ability to print out a calander listing all of your important messages linked to specific dates
4) Timed reminders. In other words vMEMO will remind you at pre-defined times of certain events contained in either your Agenda/email/voice note.
If you have any more ideas, please send me an email, and we will discuss them :-)
This sections relates to those parts of vMEMO that were not discussed above. They are listed below:
1) You can hide vMEMO (ie: place in the background) by selecting "Hide vMEMO" from the "File" menu. The hot key combination required to bring vMEMO into the foreground again is CTRL+Fn+v.
2) You have the option of playing your voice note from within vMEMO itself. To do this, press the menu key, click "vMEMO", and then click "Play Voice Note". If the voice note is no longer there (ie: you deleted it) vMEMO will notify you of this fact
A list of possible problems and solutions are detailed below:
1) Q - vMEMO won't start up, it comes up with a "c:\system\opx\message.opx missing !" message. But I
have correctly installed the message.opx.
A - The message.opx has been installed and detected by vMEMO, as it is calling the error. The problem here is that you have not installed Message Suite, which the message.opx was looking for. Install message suite again, and everything should be OK
2) Q - I've just looked into my Agenda file under the To-do section, and I
noticed that I have two vMEMO To-do lists?
A - You must have deleted the agenda.ini file generated by vMEMO, and which resides in the vMEMO folder. vMEMO looks for this file everytime you want to write a to-do or a day entry etc. If it can't find it, vMEMO assumes that this is your first time using it, and will subsequently add another vMEMO To-do list in your Agenda file.
Moral of the story, don't delete anything from the vMEMO folder !!
