  1. This file is intentionally kept small as I've noticed most people don't
  2. like reading long readme files.

  4. What does it do?
  5. ================

  7. DP5Bank is a simple but very useful bank account tracking program for
  8. the Psion Series 5 palmtop computers. It will help you have your
  9. accounts under control, figure out your net worth, warn you on defined
  10. limits and so on. You'll have no more excuse to be overdrawn. The
  11. "simple" part being the day to day use. DP5Bank is the result of several
  12. years of experience/feedback from Series 3x DPBank users.

  14. Installation

  17. 1)Make sure you have ticked the "Show 'System' folder" in your System
  18. preferences.
  19.  
  20. 2)Create a \System\Apps\DP5Bank\ folder on any drive.
  21.  
  22. 3)Copy all the files except this one into that folder.
  23.  
  24. The DP5Bank icon will then appear on your Extras bar.

  26. Instructions

  29. You will be asked to enter a group name for your accounts. This can be
  30. anything in fact (but must not contain spaces). Then just let the
  31. program guide you.

  33. Be sure to read the help file thoroughly; this completely replaces the
  34. manual.
  35.  
  36. Upgrading from the Series3a/c
  37. =============================

  39. If you are "upgrading" from DPBank, then things are not that easy. I'd
  40. suggest starting completely a new, but if you really want to keep some
  41. of your old data, then you have to follow these steps:
  42.  
  43. 1)Start DP5Bank and create your currencies, accounts and standing
  44. orders. (set all opening balances to 0)
  45.  
  46. 2)On your Series 3x, export all accounts from DPBank in Quicken (qif)
  47. format.

  49. 3)Transfer these files without conversion from your 3x to your 5 (in any
  50. folder).
  51.  
  52. 4)Import each account with the Quicken import feature of DP5Bank (in
  53. Payee field).
  54.  
  55. Drawback: cheque numbers will not be accepted because of the new cheque
  56. display format of DP5Bank (ie: number only enclosed between [...] )
  57.  
  58. Also, please note that, due to the huge amount of time it took me to
  59. "port" the program, DPBank registration codes do not work with DP5Bank.

  65. Please read the help file topic on this regard. I can now accept
  66. directly EuroCard/MasterCard and Visa credit cards.
