  13. INSTALLATION
  14. ------------

  16. This program is compatible with all EPOC32 machines, like the S5 and
  17. Geofox.
  18.  
  19. 1. Make sure "Show system folder" is selected in your system prefs.
  20.  
  21. 2. Create the folder "System\Apps\CodeCheck" on any drive. Now copy the
  22.    following files into this folder:
  23.  
  24.         CodeCheck.aif
  25.         CodeCheck.app
  26.         CodeCheck.hlp
  27.  
  28. The CodeCheck icon will now appear on your Extras bar.
  29.  
  30. Use the Options screen to change between using the program to check VAT
  31. registration codes, and using it to check credit card numbers.

  34. CHECKING VAT REGISTRATION CODES
  35. -------------------------------

  37. Have you ever received an invoice from your electrician, only to find that
  38. he has charged you a hefty 17.5% in VAT? Or are you worried that a plumbers
  39. bill scrawled on the back of a cigarette packet might not be genuine?
  40.  
  41. If so, then this could put your mind at ease...
  42.  
  43. All companies who are registered to charge VAT are required by law to
  44. supply their VAT registration code on all bills, receipts and invoices.
  45. CodeCheck can test these 9-digit VAT codes to see whether or not they are
  46. valid - and if you ever get a bill with an invalid code then you will
  47. instantly know that they are *not* registered to charge VAT, and that they
  48. are breaking the law by trying to make you pay VAT for their services.

  50. To check a VAT code, simply type the 9-digit number into the box and press
  51. the return key. A message will instantly appear telling you whether or not
  52. that code is valid. You can now be sure that nobody will ever try to make
  53. you pay VAT when they are not genuinely registered to do so!

  56. CHECKING CREDIT CARD NUMBERS

  59. This could be essential for anybody who runs a small business, and needs to
  60. take credit card orders over the telephone.
  61.  
  62. When somebody gives you their credit card number, you can enter it into
  63. CodeCheck to instantly find out whether or not that number is valid. This
  64. could be extremely useful for protecting yourself against fraud, and also
  65. gives you a quick & easy way of checking that the customer has read their
  66. card number out properly.

  68. Please remember though that CodeCheck only checks the validity of the
  69. number; it doesn't test whether or not that account actually exists, or
  70. whether their credit limit is big enough to cover the transaction. You
  71. still need to use a credit referral agency to do that!

  74. HOW TO REGISTER
  75. ---------------

  77. This program is shareware. The unregistered version is fully functional,
  78. but there is a slightly annoying delay between entering a number and the
  79. program telling you whether or not it is valid.

  81. When you register, you will be sent a personal registration code to enter
  82. into the program. This will make your copy of the program fully registered,
  83. and will remove the delays.

  94. sent to you by e-mail within 24-48 hours.

  99. Postal registrations cost 5 Pounds Sterling. You can also send *cash* in
  100. either US Dollars (10 USD) or Deutschmarks (15 DM).
