CIf you don't live in a Sterling country, you may wish to change your home currency. The program works just the same, but it means you can enter daily currency rates from your national papers instead of having to get the Financial Times or other Sterling based rate tables.
Change "Currency" to the name you want displayed, e.g. "US Dollar" or "DMark"
Change "Symbol" to "$" or "DM"
Leave "Unit" set at 1 unless you live in a country where the rate to the pound is very high, like Turkey where it's about 273,000 to the pound. Here you could chose a unit of 200,000 to make the calculations easier.
Change "Rate
1=" to EXACTLY what the rate is as shown in Edit Database. It's very important that this is the same, otherwise you'll get creeping and baffling inacuracies.
When you're done press Ok to save these changes. Now if you go to Edit Currency Basket/Edit Basket Rates you'll see that the rates now refer to your Home Currency.

'AThis is where you can select your ten favourite countries. From the "Substitute" box, select the country you want to change. From the "With" box, select the country you want to insert. When you're happy, press Change. You can also edit all the rates in the basket by pressing Edit Basket Rates.
BClick Edit Database to alter the details of each country. Usually, you'll change the currency rates in the basket, either from Edit Currency Basket or from the Edit button in Currency Table. Edit Database is where you can change other details, i.e. the currency name, the ISO code or to change the rate in the German way, 1 Foreign = ? Home, as opposed to 1 Home = ? Foreign.
To select a country to edit, find it from the Currency Basket, or click Other Countries to find it in the database.
You can also Delete a country or Add a new one.

BClick Currency Table to convert currencies. You have a basket of ten favourite countries, whose rates you can change by pressing Edit. You can enter values in any or all currencies. For instance if you entered 10 pounds, 300 Yen, 20 DMarks and 4000 Lire, the program translates them to Pounds (or your selected Home Currency) adds them up, and translates the sum back into each individual currency. The program detects any value that is changed, therefore if you then wanted to convert 25 dollars, you don't have to clear the display - $25 will be converted to all currencies in the basket.
Pressing Clear clears the display, pressing Decimal allows you to change the decimal place.
BThis section works in the same way as the Currency Table with one added feature, the More... button.
The screen size only allows ten units to be displayed at a time; the More... button takes you to the other tables in the category.
For instance, say you're in "Volume/UK Small" and you input 10 Litres, 5 Pints and 32 Fl Ounces. Press Convert or [Enter] and the sum is displayed in each different unit. Now press More... and you'll find what this sum represents in all the other tables.
The only exception to this is in "Flow" where there is no common unit between Heat, Mass and Volumetric.
Pressing Clear clears the display, pressing Decimal allows you to change the decimal place.

AYou can change the name of this category by going to Tax Name. You can change the percentage by going to Tax rate. You can therefore use it to calculate any percentage constant you wish.
Go to VAT (or whatever you've called it), enter a value, and the program does three things:
1. Calculates the sum plus tax
2. Calculates the sum minus tax
3. Calculates the figure upon which the inputted number is the tax.

AEnter a fraction in the upper box to find the closest fraction. If it's a long number, the program will very likely offer you something close, telling you the percentage of error, and you can keep pressing More Accurate until the error is acceptable or zero.
Enter a fraction in the lower two boxes and the program will reduce the fraction if it can, then show the eqivalent decimal.
The algorithm for the fraction calculator is the copyright of ?????, to whom many thanks for his generous contribution.

The other way to do it is to choose Export, then Tab-delineated text file from the drop down menu. You can then import this text file into a Word document, first setting the tabs at 1.3 inches. This gives you control over font size and layout etc.

AEarly releases of this program won't have this option. If you have the file "Clothing" in your System/Apps/S5Convert/ directory, the menu option for Clothing will appear.
Clicking any category gives you a simple table of equivalent clothing sizes. I don't like it much as it's inaccurate, open to interpretation and doesn't involve any maths. You might as well buy the little book!
AThe main screen currency note design was made in Photoshop using loads of old foreign notes found in a cupboard. I used the currency program to work out how much their total value was - came to
9.45!
It looks brilliant in Photoshop - less definition obviously on the Psion.
Use the Fn+M and Fn+? keys to adjust the contrast to get the best results. I still think Brenda's a bit dominant and will be changing it for future versions.

AThis is a stand-alone program that allows you to update the currency database nore quickly. Many countries share a currency, so by indexing on the currency rather than the country, it saves you from repeating a figure. Just tap on this file to run it.
There are many sources of currency rates on the net, but so far I can't find one in database or delimited text form to import.
The Financial Times does a full world round up every Monday.
BGIncredibly, the Series 5 differs from the Series 3 in NOT doing something that its predecessor did. You cannot view a database in the Data application that has been created in OPL (like the currency file with this program), and you can't edit a file in OPL that has been created in the Data application. Stupid or what? This means that you can't use the Data application to change the rates or other details, but you CAN use it to view or print out the table by doing the following.
1. Click Export and choose Create Comma-Delineated Text File. The default file is "c:\data\currency.txt".
2. In the zip file that contains this program (ConS5.zip) you'll find a file called "CurrencyDataTemplate". If you haven't already done so, copy this to the Psion.
3. Click twice on it and you'll open the Data Application
3. Click File/New and create a new file (this will use the correct labels from the template). Call it something like "CurrencyData"
4. Click on More/Import Text File.
5. Find the file "Currency.txt" that you've just created.
6. Ckick on Options and select "None" from "Text Qualifier". Click Ok
7. Click Ok
You will now have a Series 5 database based on your present Currency file that you can view or print in the normal way. However, bear in mind that any changes you make to this file will not be reflected in the program.
If Psion ever get their act together and alter this discrepancy, I assure you I will adjust things accordingly. Also if any programmer can think of a better way of doing this, any suggestions gratefully received.
To print a table direct from the program, choose Printer (see Printing).
To save to a text file for inclusion in the wordprocessor, Choose Tab-delineated text file. When you have created this file, go to Word, create a new file, set the tabs at 1.3 inches and Import text file. This prints out very well.

BTo include all posible scientific conversions, the program would fill up all space on he Psion. "User Groups" allow you to set up your own formulae.
There are five groups, each with 5 parameters. Source name (A), Destination name (B) and three values, r1,r2 and r3. The formula is displayed at the top of the dialog box:
((A*r1)/r2)+r3
This allows you some pretty complex combinations, or indeed simple ones. If it's a simple multiplication for example, you can switch off the other two by setting r2 to 1 and r3 to 0.
When you've defined your groups, go to "User Groups" which will now work like any other unit conversion except that here you can convert in both directions -A to B, or B to A.
AThere is a bug in early versions of the Series 5 that doesn't allow you to get properly out of this Help file. If you "Go Back", the Help file remains open and the only way to re-enter it is via the "Convert" window at the top of the toolbar. Press Cntl+E to exit.
