  1. Light Timer (Freeware. Copyright D.Stuart 1998).

  4. No bells or whistles, just a very simple utility to
  5. disable the backlight timer on a Psion Series 5. This is
  6. particularly useful when using external power and
  7. working in a darkened environment, as I often do.
  8. Setting the timer to 00:00 disables the timer and the
  9. backlight stays on until the machine is switched off.

  11. Let's hope that such a facility is included in the next
  12. version of Series 5 ROM.

  14. The files associated with Light Timer can be freely
  15. copied and distributed intact and unchanged. No charge
  16. must made for any such copying or distribution.

  18. Installation.
  19. ------------

  21. Create a folder in /System/Apps called Light Timer. 
  22. (Make sure that the System folder is visible. If not,
  23. press Ctrl+K in the system screen and select Show
  24. 'System' folder from the Preferences dialogue).
  25. Copy the files Light Timer.app and Light timer.aif into
  26. the new folder. The extras bar will now include the
  27. Light Timer application.

  29. Operation.

  32. To switch the backlight timer off, simply run the
  33. application and press enter. The timer setting defaults
  34. to 00:00 switching the timer off (not allowed in the
  35. normal system screen setting). If the system screen
  36. control panel screen dialogue is subsequently opened,
  37. the timer will default to 3:00 minutes. The maximum
  38. allowable setting in Light Timer is also 3:00 minutes.
