sCEach section has its own set of 'menus and 'menu options' which you use to carry out the calculations you need.
Displaying the menus of options
* Press the "Menu" key. You will see the options on the first menu and the names of all the other menus on the 'menu bar' at the top of the screen.
* Use the left&right arrow keys to display the options on menus not currently shown.
Selecting a menu option
Use the up&down arrow keys to position the highlight on the option and then press "Enter"
Using Short Cuts
A method of getting straight to the calculations without having to go through the menu, is to use short cuts.
Beside the option name in the menu a 'hot key' is shown. It is symbolised as CTRL+ letter.
E.g. by pressing "CTRL-S" from the main screen you will get to the setup screen.
This is case depended,'CTRL-A' will bring you to a different menu than CTRL+Shift-'A'.
QDAfter having selected an option from the menu and having pressed "Enter", you will get to a 'dialog', a screen in which information (data) needs to be entered or selected.
Entering data in dialogs
Use the keys "Arrow" keys to move between the dialog lines; the highlight shows your current position.
On this position numbers have to be entered. Take care when entering decimals; depending on the setup of your Psion, you will have to use either 'comma' or 'dot' to separate the numbers. A warning ('number is not valid') will be displayed at the right bottom side, in case the wrong decimal separator or an invalid number is entered.
Selecting data in dialogs
When a dialog line has small arrowheads around the setting, use the left&right "Arrow" keys or click on the arrowheads to select a setting from a list of alternatives.
Or press "Tab" to list all the alternatives and then position the highlight by using the "Arrow" keys.
When you've finished entering or selecting data in a dialog press "Enter" to confirm and go to the result screen, or "Esc" to stop and go back to the main screen.
lAOn the left side of the Result screen the setup is shown.
On the right side of the result screen the active keys are displayed.
E.g. 'Esc' to go back to the Main screen, 'R' (or Spacebar) to recalculate and 'S' to change the setup.
On some result screens you can use "Arrow" keys to have a closer look at the calculation if minor number changes would be entered.
BThe Filmcalculator is supplied with an example Light database called "All_Lights".
It is possible to modify or add a separate database.
Changing the data:
* Close the Filmcalculator
* Make a backup of the existing database.
* Open the database in the Data application by double clicking on it or by using the "Open" command.
* Now you can change or add data to it.
The light values are given in Peakbeam values. Use the Filmcalculator to convert from other light values.
Creating a new database:
* Open the database as described above.
* While in the database select "New" from the Menu.
* Enter a name and location and press "Enter"
This will make an empty database with the correct field names.
B(Not recommended for inexperienced users)
Most of the 'General information' in the program is taken from the file called General.001. It is possible to change this information, for example to update the Film stock card.
First make a backup copy from the file!
The file is a plain Ascii text file, change the contents of a copy with Notepad on a PC or with Word on the Psion. Don't forget to save it as a plain text file.
Place the edited version in the 'System\Apps\Filmcalc' directory. The program automatically checks for its presence.
Be careful while editing this file. Changing the card numbers or the amount of lines for each card, could result in an unusable file.
BMain supply voltage:
Main supply frequency:
Prefered light value: Choose between LUX, Footcandle and F-stop. The F-stop will be used in combination with the ASA value setting.
Standard size: The choice between the Metric and Imperial system.
Show Aperture stops: Selects between the decimal system e.g 3,5 and the decimal system (used on Minolta meters) e.g. 2.8 5
Combine settings with: Film or Photo. This will use the settings like framerate or shutter time/angle from the "combined with " setting for use in light calculations.
Lamp database to use: Select between the Standard "All_Lights" database delivered with the Filmcalculator or your own.
The standard database can be found in the 'System\Apps\Filmcalc' directory.
