  27. What's in the distribution?
  28. =======================================================================
  29. This distribution contains Glide, Glide3, Direct3D(r) drivers for 
  30. Voodoo2 Based 3D Accelerators and the Voodoo2 Control Panel Applet.
  31.  
  32. This distribution should be used by all OEM's shipping boards for
  33. the Windows 95/98 platform.  It is suggested that the files in this kit
  34. be placed on a driver CD in uncompressed (unzipped) format.

  71. Requirements

  74. - Windows 95 or Windows 98
  75. - PC with an Intel(r), AMD(r) or, Cyrix(r) based processor
  76. - One free PCI slot (or two free PCI slots for SLI)
  77. - 16MB of RAM or more Suggested

  80. Installation
  81. ------------
  82. The installation below can vary depending on which version of Windows
  83. is installed.  To determine the Windows 95 version click Start, 
  84. Settings, Control Panel. Double-click on the system icon. If the 
  85. Windows version is 4.00.950b, Windows 95 OEM SR2 is running.

  88. Existing Drivers Installed or PCI Multimedia Device shown in Device Mgr
  89. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  90. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  91.  
  92. 2) Open Device Manager (Start, Settings, Control Panel, System)
  93.  
  94. 3) Locate the existing reference to the card it will be listed as:
  95.  
  96.        Reference Card: Other Devices / PCI Multimedia Device or
  97.                Sound, Video, Game Controllers / Voodoo2
  98.  
  99.    NOTE: In an SLI configiration (2 Voodoo2 cards) you only need to
  100.    select one card to update.

  102. 4) Double Click on the card, then click the driver Tab
  103.  
  104.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Click "Change Driver" and choose
  105.                                         "Have Disk"
  106.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  107.                                         the Next Button.  Click "Other
  108.                                         Locations" 
  109.                       Windows 98 users: Click "Update Driver" then click
  110.                                         the Next Button twice on the
  111.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  112.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  113.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  114.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.
  115.  
  116. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  117.    OK.  
  118.  
  119.      Windows Standard Release 95 users: Select "Voodoo2 3D Accelerator" 
  120.                                         from the List and click OK.
  121.                                         Click OK again to save changes in
  122.                                         Device Manager.
  123.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 Users: Click on Finish to continue.
  124.                       Windows 98 users: Click on Next to continue.

  126. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  127.    Disk.  Again, point to the path you extracted the files to and press OK.

  129. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted
  130.  
  131. 8) Install DirectX 7 (If not already installed)

  135. No Current Drivers Installed (Single Board and SLI)
  136. ---------------------------------------------------

  138. Single Board
  139. ============
  140.  
  141. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  142.  
  143. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  144.    3D board into a PCI slot. 
  145.  
  146. 3) Restart Windows after hardware installation.
  147.  
  148. 4) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  149.  
  150.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  151.                                         and click OK
  152.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  153.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  154.                                         "Other Locations"
  155.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  156.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  157.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  158.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  159.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.

  161. 5) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  162.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)

  164. 6) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  165.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.

  167. 7) Windows will copy the drivers. Reboot the system when prompted

  172. SLI (Two Voodoo2 Boards with SLI cable)
  173. =======================================
  174.  
  175. 1) Start Windows and extract the drivers to a temporary directory.
  176.  
  177. 2) Shutdown Windows, Power off the system and install your Voodoo2
  178.    3D boards into PCI slots next to each other
  179.  
  180. 3) Connect the SLI cable to both boards.
  181.  
  182. 4) Restart the system and Windows after hardware installation.
  183.  
  184. 5) Windows will detect a "PCI Multimedia Device", you need to:
  185.  
  186.      Windows 95 Standard Release users: Select "Use Driver from Mfr"
  187.                                         and click OK
  188.               Windows 95 OEM SR2 users: Click the Next Button on the
  189.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Then click
  190.                                         "Other Locations"
  191.                       Windows 98 users: Click the Next Button twice on the
  192.                                         Detection Dialog Box. Ensure that
  193.                                         "Specify a Location" is checked and
  194.                                         "Microsoft Windows Update" is not
  195.                                         checked. Click Browse to continue.

  197. 6) Point the driver location to where the files are extracted to and click
  198.    OK.  (Windows 98: You will need to click on Next to continue)

  200. 7) You MAY then be prompted to insert the "Voodoo2 Drivers for Windows 9X"
  201.    Disk.  Enter the path the drivers are extracted to and press OK.

  203. 8) Windows will copy the drivers. When prompted to reboot the system, 
  204.    click No. You may be asked to reboot several more times. Manually 
  205.    restart the system by clicking Start, Shutdown and Restart.

  207. 9) Install DirectX 7  (If not already installed)

  211. Troubleshooting
  212. ---------------
  213. Problem: After installing this driver, the Control panel applet I had
  214. for a Voodoo Graphics card is gone.
  215.  
  216. Resolution: The Voodoo2 drivers will uninstall *ANY* Voodoo Graphics 
  217. drivers.  This is to ensure only Voodoo2 drivers are on the system.
  218.  
  219.  
  220. Problem: After upgrading Voodoo Graphics to Voodoo2, old Glide games 
  221. that worked before are not working now.
  222.  
  223. Resolution: Make Voodoo2 backwards compatable with Voodoo Graphics by 
  224. adding environment variables with V2-auto.inf.  Using Windows Explore 
  225. and find V2-auto.inf in directory were zip file was extracted.  Right 
  226. click V2-auto.inf and select Install from pop-up menu.  Reboot system.
  227. This will update the Autoexec.bat file with environment variables. 
  228. Uninstall will not remove the lines from Autoexec.bat

  231. OpenGL(r) ICD: Known Limitations
  232. ----------------------------------
  233. The OpenGL ICD included with this kit is meant for use with OpenGL based 
  234. games only. It may not be compatible with other applications that use the 
  235. OpenGL API for 3D rendering support.
