** Special Notice to Compaq Users **
** using **
** BIOS versions 4.0 or less **
***************************************
PROBLEM: Upon executing BYE-PC, the screen goes blank and nothing
appears on the screen, or is sent to the remote. Program
seems to lock up completly, but it will still answer the
phone.
REASON: Compaq Deskpro computers with BIOS versions 4.0 or less
do not support video interrupt 10h function 0Eh (write to
teletype display). This function is used in PC DOS by all
routines that write to video using the tty interface. The
main purpose of the tty function is to allow high speed
interface of the video display. Apparently, this function
is not used at all by MSDOS for the Compaq.
SOLUTION: Purchase a BIOS ROM update version 5.0 or greater. The part
number for version 5.0 of the ROM is 100298-001. After the
new ROM is installed, BYE-PC will operate correctly on the
Compaq.
NOTICE: The following information was provided by Dave Bennett. You
may wish write to him if you are having problems finding a
new ROM at:
Dave Bennett
3016 Reelfoot Drive
Nashville, Tennessee 37214
According to Dave, BYE-PC functions perfectly with the ROM
update.
