The peccary is a mammal that looks like a domestic pig, but it has thinner and longer legs and a shorter tail, and the peccaryΓÇÖs brown or reddish fur is longer and coarser. Also, the tip of their fur is lighter in color. Their two front teeth (incisors) stick out of their mouth.
Peccaries live in groups of 100 to 200 individuals. Their meat is tasty and sought after by hunters, but they are very hard to attack in a group because they are very courageous. Not even the jaguar dares to tease peccaries or their cousin, the white-collared peccary, when found in groups. People say that these animals can only be caught if they are alone, away from the rest of the herd. The peccary chatters its teeth as a sign of bravery and make a sound like a dog barking when it is upset.
