The agouti is a rodent that generally has rough, brown fur. In the rear, its fur may be red. Agoutis have thick trunks, thin legs and little tails. Their front teeth stick out of their mouth, and are long, curved and reddish. Agoutis live in burrows in the forest that can be easily found, since they usually leave tracks behind them. They spend most of the day in their burrow, but at dusk they go out in search of food. Their meat is delicious, which is why they are very often hunted. When they feel threatened, they hide in their burrows. Hunters force them out by lighting a
fire near the burrow.

Favorite food: Fruit, corn, sugar cane and manioc.
