The harpy eagle is the largest predatory bird in Brazil and the most powerful bird in the world. It is generally gray, with a dark, feathery collar. The harpyΓÇÖs head is generally lighter than the rest of its body. Some Indian tribes use its feathers to adorn arrows and knots. Indians also eat their meat and use the fat to make natural medicines. The harpy can rotate its head in a half circle, in other words, 180 degrees. When it sees prey it displays its beautiful fan-shaped crest, and goes after the victim. Newborn harpies are completely white.
Approximate size: 6 feet of wingspan (distance from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other).
Favorite food: Birds, small deer, monkeys and sloths.
