The red macaw is a bird of the parrot family. Red macaws live in the forest, in couples or in small groups. Their name in Portuguese (arara), refers to the characteristic sound they make, that sounds like ΓÇ£a-ra, a-ra.ΓÇ¥ They are extremely noisy and alert all the animals whenever a stranger invades their territory. They make their nests in holes in the trees and lay two eggs
a year. Young red macaws eat the same food as their parents, but in lesser quantity. The female collects fruit and nuts that she softens with her saliva, then feeds to her young.
