This is the largest river archipelago in the world, located on the Rio Negro. The Anavilhanas Archipelago, which was considered the largest on earth until the Mariuá Archipelago was discovered, is located 190 miles away. There are 700 islands along the 90-mile stretch of river between the cities of Moura and Barcelos, 310 miles from Manaus. Many plants and animals live in this archipelago, including cardinal fish, butterfly fish, pink dolphins, yams and the Galhandra devoniana orchid (also known as the pink dolphin’s flower).
