  1. It was a cold and rather blustery day in November that heralded the
  2. arrival of the Kruger family to their new home in Zagreb.  Misty and
  3. overcast, the leaves long since fallen, a rather barren landscape
  4. confronted Anne Kruger as she stepped from the carriage.  She drew a
  5. sigh as she looked up and down the platform.  No sign of the man supposed
  6. to meet her.  Well, first things first, she thought and turned to beckon
  7. her two children from the train.
  8. At that moment she gasped as she felt a hand on her shoulder.  A heavy hand,
  9. gloved in rough leather, grasping her shoulder with an insistence which
  10. startled her and, she realized later, drew a certain fear.  She turned to
  11. face the owner who announced: "You are Anne Kruger.  I have come for you."
