  3. WELCOME!
  4. You have wandered into the medical subdirectory of the University of
  5. Michigan's Public Domain and Shareware archive. Currently, this section
  6. only contains Macintosh software, however if there is a demand, it may 
  7. be possible to expand it to support other platforms.
  8.  
  9. This section of the archive contains software useful to the health science
  10. professional community. It is currently under construction. You may submit
  11. files by leaving them in the mac/incoming directory.
  12.  
  13. Currently, the medical section of the archives is being maintained by
  14. Eric Meininger (ericm@umich.edu), a medical student attending the University
  15. of Michigan Medical School. If you have any comments or suggestions, don't 
  16. hesitate to send a message.

  19. SUBMITTING FILES TO THE MEDICAL SECTION OF THE ARCHIVES

  21. The best way to get files to our archive is to ftp-put them into the
  22. incoming directory, then e-mail ericm@umich.edu and let him 
  23. know that you've placed a file.  This way he'll know there are health science
  24. files waiting  within the directory, and also who to contact if the files
  25. don't work "as advertised".

  27. Another way is to e-mail the file to ericm@umich.edu.  It works
  28. just as well.

  31. VIRUSES
  32.  
  33. Unlike other Internet "Mac" archives, we test each and every one of the
  34. files that appears in our "incoming" directory and in our mailboxes addressed
  35. to mac.archive.  We use the most-up-to-date virus detection inits and control
  36. panels (Disinfectant, Gatekeeper, etc.) to insure that the files that we
  37. add to the archive are not carrying anything that can harm your Macintosh 
  38. and your (and our) work.  We also make these public domain/shareware
  39. virus detection packages available to you as fast as we receive them in
  40. our "utilities/virus" directory.

  47. UTILITIES REQUIRED TO UNPACK FILES FROM THIS ARCHIVE

  58. It works thusly:

  60. If you have a file called
  61.      foo.sit.hqx
  62. Then what you do is start from the right side of the name and work your way
  63. left.  In other words, you want to get the file "foo".  On the right you
  64. see the suffix ".hqx", so first you use binhex4.0 to un-binhex it.  Then
  65. you see ".sit".  So next you would use unstuffit deluxe to un-stuff it.  Voila!
  66. You'll have "foo".

  68. For Self Extracting Archives, all you need to do is double click on the
  69. file, and it will extract itself.  So if you have a file named
  70.      bar.sea.hqx
  71. You would first un-binhex it, and then double click on the file to extract
  72. it.
