- Hi there,
-
- Here are some helpful tips (hopefully) on how to install MacMud.
- This version (3.1.2+) runs only in TCP/IP mode which means that
- it is basically a mud server, requiring you to use another program
- to connect to it (such as NCSA Telnet or Muddweller).
-
- This version of MacMud does no longer require the rather ambigious
- mac_from_mars entry in your Hosts file. All you need is the
- following:
-
- MacMud (comp) (for compatible mode mudlibs 2.4.5)
- MacMud (full) (for native mode mudlibs)
- MacMud (nlhack) (for Kobra mode mudlibs)
- MacMud (cd) (for Genesis mode mudlibs)
-
- MacTCP version 1.1
-
- 2 megabytes available to the mud driver (2,5+ megs of actual memory)
-
- and of course the mudlib of your choice.
-
- Presently the driver should be placed inside the mudlib. Then
- you click on the driver, it will ask you to pick the directory
- containing the mudlib. Please click on the button at the top
- "Select current folder". The mud will subsequently preload
- all objects defined in the file /room/init_file. This may
- take awhile depending on your machine type mostly. After the
- driver writes out the message "Setting up ipc" then your mud
- is ready for the first connection.
-
- Connecting to a MacMud is identical to connecting to any other
- unix mud. Simply use the ip address specified in MacTCP and
- the port number set up in MudStartup.rc.
-
- This should about cover everything I can think of at the moment.
-
- P.S.:
-
- MacMud (comp) and MacMud (full) are the only ones included in
- this distribution.
-
- P.P.S.:
-
- MacMud might not run on 68000 machines, but it might. It did,
- but I might have to look into it again. So if it crashes on your
- Pluses or SE's please drop me a line.
