  30. 1.- INSTALLATION TIPS
  31. =====================

  33. Virus Checking Programs: If you are using a virus checking program
  34.     that remains resident in memory, and you receive an alert
  35.     from it while installing Money, ignore the program's
  36.     alert. Or, remove the virus-checking program from memory
  37.     if it is not possible to ignore the alert, restart your
  38.     computer and run Setup again.
  39.  
  40. Stacker: If you are running the program Stacker, or if you are 
  41.     using DoubleSpace with MS DOS version 6.0, Money Setup
  42.     might get wrong information about the available disk space
  43.     available. If Setup is not completed successfully, you will
  44.     need to    free more space on your hard disk and run Money 
  45.     Setup again. 
  46.

  48. If you are running hDC Virtual DeskTop version 1, Money Setup will
  49.     install all the Money files, but the Transaction Cue Cards
  50.      and the Money Preview will not operate correctly.
  51.     From the hDC Power Launcher menu, choose Remove in
  52.     order to run the Money cue cards and previews.

  56. 2.- WHAT'S NEW IN MONEY 3

  59. If you use Money version 1 or 2, you'll want to know about the
  60. following new features of version 3:  (Page numbers refer to the
  61. Money User's Guide, where you can find more information.)

  64. * Track your investments - You will be able to keep track of your
  65.   stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and other investments such as your
  66.   401(K) plan.  You will also be able to update prices (manually 
  67.   or with Quotes On-Line), and  view reports about gains, net 
  68.   worth, and more. (Page 217)

  70. * Financial Wizards - Money 3 has these new financial wizards to
  71.   help you with your finances:
  72.   - Loan Calculator: understand the terms and costs of a loan, or
  73.     compare two loans. (Page 214)

  75.   - Savings Calculator: plan your savings toward a future goal.

  88.   directly into your  Money records, and automatically categorizes
  89.   your credit card transactions. (Page 286)

  91. * Quotes On-Line allows you to download into your Money records 
  92.   closing prices of any stock or mutual fund traded in the major
  93.   markets. (Page 238)

  95. * Import all QIF account files from your Quicken records in just
  96.   one step. You won't need to import one QIF file at a time.

  98. * Right mouse click report on payee in the Account Book; while
  99.   editing a transaction, click the right mouse button in the Payee
  100.   field to bring up a list of the latest transactions for that 
  101.   payee.

  103. * Improved reports, including a register running balance report

  105. * The Memo field can be 255 characters long (from a max of 32 in

  135. 3.- TAX FORM TABLES FOR US, CANADA AND AUSTRALIA
  136. ================================================

  138. When you install Money, Setup will install a Canadian, Australian
  139. or United States version of the Tax Table, depending on your
  140. Country setting in the International dialog box of the Microsoft
  141. Windows Control Panel. For more information about the Control 
  142. Panel, see the Microsoft Windows documentation.
  143.  
  144. If your Country setting is Australia and if you don't have a file
  145. named MSMONEY.MNY in your Money directory, Setup will copy a 
  146. version of MSMONEY.MNY that has been customized for Australia
  147. with a default list of categories already assigned to the 
  148. corresponding Tax Form and Tax Form Line.
  149.

  155. 4.- OTHER TIPS
  156. ==============
  157.  
  158. Excel macro: Setup installs a Microsoft Excel macro to help
  159. convert    checking account information from Excel to Money. See
  160. Appendix B in the User's Guide for more information.
  161.  
  162. Charts: If you are displaying a large amount of data in a chart,
  163. some text might be overlapped or clipped. Money offers several
  164. ways to avoid this:
  165.     * Use a smaller font size.
  166.     * Lump small percentages together in the Combine All
  167.       Values Under  %  Of Total option, when customizing
  168.       a report.
  169.     * Create a different type of chart.
  170.  
  171. On-Line Payees: If you are using Pay On-Line, the first time you 
  172. make a connection to On-Line Services, a file called EPAYEES.LST
  173. is downloaded and copied to your hard disk. This file allows you
  174. to add On-Line payees to your list of payees, and allows Money to
  175. calculate the number of days needed to pay each    of them. If you
  176. move your MSMONEY.MNY file to a different directory or computer,
  177. or if you make a backup, remember to copy the EPAYEES.LST file
  178. along with the MNY file.

  182. 5.- HARDWARE PROBLEMS OR INCOMPATIBILITIES
  183. ==========================================
  184.  
  185. This is a list of known hardware incompatibility problems:
  186.  
  187.  
  188. *  If you are using a Telebit QBlazer modem for On-Line Services,
  189.     add the following lines to your WIN.INI file:
  190.     [MNYESRV]
  191.     InitModem=S58=0S180=0S190=0
  192.  
  193. *  If you will be using On-Line Services with a PDI at work,
  194.     as opposed to with a standard telephone modem, add 
  195.     these two lines to your win.ini:
  196.     [MNYESRV]
  197.     InitModem=S32=0&C1&D3
  198.  
  199. *  Printing checks on the HP Deskjet printer
  200.     Money recommends using Laser Voucher checks with this
  201.     printer or printing Laser Standard checks in batches of
  202.     three. Because the Deskjet, Deskjet PLUS and the Deskjet
  203.     500 do not support manual feed, it is difficult to align
  204.     and print on partial pages of checks. The default
  205.     landscape font provides less than optimal results.
  206.  
  207.     Additionally, certain versions of the DeskJet 500 driver
  208.     can cause printing errors. Updating the driver or using
  209.     the DESKJET.DRV driver from Windows 3.00a or higher
  210.     solves this problem.
  211.  
  212.  
  213. *  Printing on a Kyocera F-2010 laser printer
  214.     Money recommends using Laser Voucher checks with this
  215.     printer or printing Laser Standard checks in batches of
  216.     three (to avoid printing on partial pages of checks).
  217.  
  218.     The Kyocera F-2010 printer will not print the leftmost
  219.     three inches of the page when printing in landscape
  220.     mode using the printer's manual feed. You can try
  221.     printing partial pages from the letter-sized tray, but
  222.     proper alignment of partial sheets of checks in the
  223.     tray may be difficult.
  224.  
  225.  
  226. *  Printing checks on IBM 4019 & 4029 laser printers
  227.     When printing a partial page of Laser Standard checks,
  228.     it is recommended that you use the Envelope feed
  229.     for better text alignment. On the printer's front panel,
  230.     choose Envelope feed.
  231.  
  232.  
  233. *  Printing checks on IBM EXECJET printer
  234.     Money recommends using continuous-feed checks; this
  235.     printer prints laser checks in a font that is too large
  236.     for the check.
  237.  
  238.  
  239. *  Printing reports on the Canon LBP-8 Mark III
  240.     When printing reports on this printer there can be
  241.     column alignment problems, missing text and underlines,
  242.     and other potential printing errors.
  243.  
  244.     Please contact your printer dealer to inquire about
  245.     updates to the Windows drivers for this printer.
  246.  
  247.  
  248. *  Printing with NEC PinWriter series
  249.     Printing with the NEC PinWriter with the driver version
  250.     1.331 may cause an Unrecoverable Application Error.
  251.     Contact NEC for a more recent driver, version 1.37 or
  252.     higher.
  253.  
  254.  
  255. *  Micrografx postscript printer driver
  256.     If you are printing with Micrografx Postscript Printer
  257.     driver prior to version 2.6, you will need to install
  258.     the Postscript driver that ships with Microsoft
  259.     Windows 3.0 or 3.1 or contact Micrografx for an updated
  260.     printer driver.
  261.  
  262.     If you are printing with the Micrografx postscript printer
  263.     driver version 2.6 or above and have problems printing,
  264.     you will need to add a line to the MSMONEY.INI file. (The
  265.     file MSMONEY.INI is located in the same directory as
  266.     MSMONEY.EXE.) Open your MSMONEY.INI file with a text
  267.     editor (such as Windows Notepad) and add the following
  268.     line to the file:
  269.  
  270.     UseDefaultPrSetup=1
  271.  
  272.     Save the file and restart Microsoft Money. You will
  273.     now be able to print using the Micrografx postscript
  274.     printer driver.
  275.  
  276.  
  277. *  NEC 800x600 video display adapters
  278.     Certain versions of this display adapter may have
  279.     refresh and display problems. If you experience a
  280.     significant number of display errors (missing text,
  281.     partially drawn screens, etc.), please contact your
  282.     NEC dealer for further information and the most recent
  283.     display driver.
  284.  
  285.  
  286. *  ATM and DCS Speedstar graphics card
  287.     Using Adobe Type Manager and a DCS Speedstar graphics
  288.     card set to 1024x768 resolution / 256 color may cause
  289.     an Unrecoverable Application Error in the Fonts dialog
  290.     in Reports. This can be corrected by installing a DCS
  291.     Speedstar driver with either lower resolution, such as
  292.     the 800x600 resolution / 256 color driver, or with fewer
  293.     colors, such as the 1024x768 resolution /16 color driver.
  294.     You may install these drivers through the Windows Control
  295.     Panel.
  296.  
  297.  
  298. *  Multimedia machines & sound boards
  299.     Some sound boards used with multimedia machines may
  300.     cause an Unrecoverable Application Error when entering
  301.     a transaction in Money. To correct this, in Money, choose
  302.     Settings from the Options menu. Turn off the "Beep on
  303.     Transaction Entry" option.
  304.  
  305.  
  306. *  US-International keyboard
  307.     If you have selected "US-International" keyboard layout
  308.     under Windows 3.1, the SHIFT+" (quotation mark) keyboard
  309.     shortcut will not work as documented in the Money 3 User's
  310.     Guide and online Help. Under the "US-International" layout
  311.     (KBDUSX.DLL), the quotation mark key serves as a dead key
  312.     that allows you to easily type diacritic vowels from non-
  313.     English alphabets. Money 3 preserves this functionality,
  314.     rather than overriding it with the shortcut.
  315.  
  316. *  Australian and Canadian users can download additional printer
  317.     drivers from the following download services:
