Here are the addenda to the User's Guide and Scanner Installation Guide:
WordScan 2.0 supports TWAIN compliant scanners and has been tested with the Hewlett-Packard TWAIN drivers. Simply choosing the "TWAIN" selection within the WordScan installation program will setup WordScan to recognize the TWAIN driver that you have installed and allow it to operate.
Hewlett-Packard does not support AccuPage Technology on the HP ScanJet scanner.
Calera has had difficulty making Microsoft's Windows for Workgroups and the DEST PS Scan 3000 to operate reliably. Calera was unable to make the PC Scan 3000 scanner work with Windows for Workgroups without causing a fatal Application Error before this product was released.
If you cancel the OCR process on a page other than page one of a multi-page fax, WordScan will leave temporary files in the c:\wordscan\temp directory. These files are in the form of fax-00*.tif. To reclaim disk space you may delete these files.
The DOS utility SHARE used in conjunction with Microsoft's Windows for Workgroups can sometimes cause problems with WordScan's ability to import files for processing. If you are using SHARE it may need to be disabled in order for WordScan to be able to read certain image files that are being "shared".
Deskew will only work on Portrait and Flipped page orientations in this release. Landscape and FlipScape pages will scan without deskew.
When using a Fujitsu scanner connected to a supported Kofax interface card you must choose the maximum page length that the scanner is able to scan during the installation. The dialog box which appears after you select the scanner erroneously calls this selection "Default Page Size", where it should say maximum page size. If you have selected the wrong size, then you are able to change it by executing the "WordScan Setup" program which is represented by the icon alongside the WordScan program icon.

The selection for the Epson ES-800C scanner, known outside the U.S. as the GT-8000, presents two choices: one that mentions "Transparencies" and one that does not. Choose the non-Transparency selection.
Auto Orientation does not have the ability to display the rotated image within the graphic Progress Monitor. Rather than displaying a warning message or showing a blank image, WordScan will simply display the minimized Progress Monitor which has no graphic representation of the page.
The OCR Aware macro for scanning from within other text-based applications, allows a user to exit from WordScan without saving their work. Because the intent of the OCR Aware macro is to export directly into the host application the warning for exiting without saving is disabled.
The OCR Aware macro allows you to "Open..." a document once it has been launched within a host application, but it must then be saved and placed into that host application by OCR Aware. An opened document cannot be "Closed...".
WordScan does not support The Complete PC PageScanner's ability to scan 4 or 8 Bayer Halftone dithered images. The resulting files are not usable by WordScan for OCR purposes.
WordScan exhibits erratic behavior when a zone is drawn outside of the image boundary within the Previewer. A example where this might happen is when a zone or zones have been drawn in the Previewer and the image is then rotated. If a zone lies outside of the image of the page in the Previewer it must be deleted before proceeding. This is considered a deficiency and will be corrected in the next release of WordScan.
The "Save As..." operation within WordScan will alert you if an impending save operation will overwrite a file that already exists in the current target directory. WordScan is currently only looking at the filename and not at the extension. Therefore, if you wish to save a file named DOG.TXT and DOG.RTF already exists, the file WILL NOT be overwritten as stated in the warning message. WordScan will overwrite files with the exact same name and extension.
When importing word lists into WordScan for use as a User Dictionary the list must have a carriage return after the last word in the file. If this carriage return does not appear then WordScan will omit the last letter of the last word of the list.
The OCR Aware macro relies on the Edit menu of the host application to post a Paste command from the Windows Clipboard. If the host application is in an "idle" state where there is no document open and the Edit menu is not active, the OCR Aware macro will not be able to complete its operation by Pasting its text into a document. If this happens, you will need to open a document then manually paste the contents of the Clipboard into a newly opened document.
WordScan currently allows you to delete a Template which is currently loaded by going to the Retrieve Template menu item and selecting the template and deleting it. If you then go to Close the template WordScan will complain that it no longer exists.
