To: All "PS-Up" Supporters
From: Knight Research - Compuserve ID 71301,3400
Subject: New Release - Version 2.41
The latest release of PS-Up contains minor changes - there was a bug
in the previous Version 2.40 which made the printing of multiple
files sometimes unpredictable. (If a file did not end in a carriage
return / line feed / white-space, subsequent files in the same job would
be flushed from the printer and not print. I never got an error report
on this one but the bug was there nonetheless).
One other fix in this version - if "Fountain Borders" were selected
and a "Binding Margin" of any size other than .5 inches was used, no
border would print on the document. (Wrong internal variable being
used in the menu selection. This was the default menu selection for
new users who haven't saved their initial profile, but it escaped our
testing). Many thanks to Gary for finding and reporting this bug!
NEW Features: To make it worth your while in downloading,
Version 2.41 of PS-Up has added:
(*) New "COPIES" option - on the File Listbox screen,
a new pop-down listbox has been added to allow you
to select 1 to 10 copies of the document(s) to be
printed. This feature uses the Postscript #copies
function and should produce the fastest
uncollated copies.
Thanks for your support,
Doug.

Futures: I have had requests to look at the following enhancements to
the PS-Up program:
* Provide International support for the A4 paper size.
* Provide Code page 850 character support.
* Provide Command Line option to print file(s) from
the command line - and Pipe the results to a file or TCP/IP.
* Save the last drive/directory you were in so that you will
automatically return there when run PS-Up again.
* Duplexing support for printing on both sides of the paper.
* A variety of margin, font, and other changes too numerous
to mention. These can probably be accomodated with a
prefix & postfix codes section. With this feature, you will
have the ability to "hook" into the PS-Up program and send
a file of your choosing with the appropriate setups.
* Long terms ideas of mine...change the program to use the PM GPI
calls and eliminate the requirement to have a postscript
printer!
* Eliminate the fan-out menus and move the entire program to one
concise dialog box with drop-down list option boxes...this would
eliminate a lot of mouse clicks.
* Change the program to use the drag & drop metaphor. Printing
would be accomplished by pulling an icon based file from a list
box and dropping it on a variety of different icons which represent
printers and page formats. This would also supporting printing
ascii text from a other programs as well as the OS/2 file manager.
(Drag & drop was added to OS/2 with release 1.3 CSD 5015 and
is fully supported in OS/2 2.0).
No promises on if/when I'll get at these suggestions but I do appreciate
the feedback.

If you are a first time user of PS-Up, this is a postscript formatting
program which is useful for formatting plain ascii text files and
printing them on a postscript printer under OS/2. PS-Up should run on
any version of OS/2 1.1 or greater. It DOES require a postscript printer
to print. This program will format 1, 2, or 4 pages of text...66 lines
to a page on a sheet of paper. Printing to a file is supported. PS-Up is
a multi-threaded program and does not tie up the OS/2 desktop while it
prints. Lines longer than 81 characters wrap to the next line and are
not truncated.
