Hi CatsEye owners,
here is all you need to get your CatsEye XGA-2 card to work correctly
under OS/2 2.1 (did not test OS/2 2.0) with a 64K aperture.
According to the IBM APAR database (and according to my experience)
APAR PJ10035 is the following problem:
If you have a CatsEye XGA card installed in a ISA/EISA machine with
more than 15MB memory then you should set the memory aperture of
the card to 64K (Switch S3, 1-4 to on). Otherwise you are in big
trouble if some software (e.g. Ultimotion/2) tries to use a 1Meg
aperture.
Unfortunately with the 2.1 GA release of OS/2 this prevents DOS sessions
(and therefore WINOS2 sessions as well) to work any more (if you start
such a session you will get an empty black screen and a dead session).
Reason is that the 2.1 GA VXGA.SYS driver simpply does not expect to
find an XGA configured for a 64k aperture... again according to IBMs
description of PJ10035 the solution is to replace the VXGA.SYS of 2.1
GA with that of build 6A.585 for OS/2 2.1 and everything is fine
again (attention: the file has EAs).
But where do you get it? Well at least the IBM OS/2 hotline didn't
know until shortly... :-)
Fortunately the BETA 2.1 CSD was released recently and believe it or not,
this CSD includes a build 6.600 VXGA.SYS driver in bundle DOS on disk 12
and this version of the driver works just fine!
To save all you CatsEye owners the hassle to get this CSD and
retrieve the file, I have included here (I hope I will not get a call
from an IBM lawyer for this).
But remember: this is NOT the official IBM fix for PJ10035; it is
just all that is needed to fix PJ10035 on my machine (and hopefully
yours as well, so no guarantees whatsoever)
Cheers,
- Clemens
