  1. The accompanying device driver is offerred as a test version only.  Neither
  2. Philips LMS nor IBM warrants any suitability of this software.

  5. The accompanying device driver is for operating the multisession CM205 and
  6. the 2x CM206 on an OS/2 system, rev 2.1 or later.  The multisession CM205 has
  7. series code F and later.  Some series code E drives were also multisession.
  8. The series code is the first character of the serial number on the drive
  9. label on the rear of the drive.  If you have a single session drive, use
  10. the single session device driver: lms205.add.

  14. The following is an excerpt from the proposed installation instructions:

  16. Installation if OS/2 2.1 is already installed on your fixed disk
  17. ----------------------------------------------------------------

  19. 1. Run the Device Driver installation program
  20.  
  21.    a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  22.    b. Open the System Setup folder.
  23.    c. Open Device Driver Install.
  24.    d. Insert the "Philips LMS CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette"
  25.    e. Select Install
  26.    f. Select the device driver to install from the list
  27.    g. Select OK.

  29.    (Note: You do not need to reboot OS/2 before starting step 2 below).

  31. 2. After the Device Driver Installation is complete, you must run
  32.    Selective Install to install the files for the OS/2 CD-ROM Device
  33.    Manager and OS/2 CD-ROM File System.

  35.    a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  36.    b. Open the System Setup folder.
  37.    c. Open Selective Install
  38.    d. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box
  39.    e. Select OK
  40.    f. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and
  41.       select the choice OTHER
  42.    g. Select OK
  43.    h. Select the OK push button to proceed from the System Configuration
  44.       screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window
  45.    i. Select Install
  46.    j. When prompted to do so, insert the numbered installation diskettes
  47.       or installation CD-ROM from the OS/2 2.1 product.

  50. 3. Shut down and restart your system

  55. Installation from the CD-ROM version of OS/2 2.1
  56. ------------------------------------------------

  58. 1.  Make a copy of the OS/2 2.1 diskette labeled "Diskette 1"
  59.  
  60. 2.  Copy the file LMS206.ADD from the "Philips LMS CD-ROM Device Driver
  61.     Diskette" to the root directory on the copy of the OS/2 2.1 Diskette 1.
  62.  
  63.     (Note: If there is not enough room on the copy of OS/2 2.1
  64.      Diskette 1, then delete the file IBM2SCSI.ADD.  If you delete
  65.      IBM2SCSI.ADD, you must also edit the CONFIG.SYS file and delete
  66.      the line BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD)

  68. 3.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file located on the copy of Diskette 1.
  69.     At the end of the file, add the following statement.

  71.        BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD
  72.

  74. 4.  Begin the installation by inserting the Installation Diskette
  75.     into drive A and restarting the system.  When prompted to insert
  76.     Diskette 1, insert the copy that you modifed.
  77.  
  78. 5.  When the System Configuration screen is displayed during installation,
  79.     the CD-ROM Device Support field will display "None".  Do not modify
  80.     the choice and continue with the installation.
  81.  
  82. 6.  After installation is complete, and you have rebooted your system,
  83.     you will not be able to access your CD-ROM drive.  This is due
  84.     to a defect in the OS/2 2.1 install program.  To access your
  85.     CD-ROM drive, perform the following steps:
  86.  
  87.     a. Copy the following files from the OS/2 2.1 Diskette 1
  88.        to the drive which OS/2 was installed.
  89.        (Note: the example assume C:, change if different)
  90.  
  91.        COPY A:OS2CDROM.DMD C:\OS2
  92.        COPY A:CDFS.IFS     C:\OS2
  93.  
  94.     b. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on drive which OS/2 was installed
  95.        and add the following statements to the end of the file:
  96.        (Note: the example assume C:, change if different)
  97.  
  98.        DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
  99.        IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q

  101.     c. Shut down and reboot the system
  102.

  104. 7.  You will need to run Selective Install to copy over some remaining
  105.     system files.

  107.     a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  108.     b. Open the System Setup folder.
  109.     c. Open Selective Install
  110.     d. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box
  111.     e. Select OK
  112.     f. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and
  113.        select the choice OTHER
  114.     g. Select OK
  115.     h. Select the OK push button to proceed from the System Configuration
  116.        screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window
  117.     i. Select Install
  118.     j. When prompted to do so, insert the installation CD-ROM
  119.        from the OS/2 2.1 product.

  138. This section lists the parameters which are supported for the
  139. Philips LMS CD-ROM device driver.  The parameters can be changed
  140. by modifying the BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD line in config.sys.
  141.  
  142. For the LMS206.ADD device driver, the syntax for the line in config.sys
  143. is as follows:

  145.    BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD [/u:X] [/m:Y] [/V]
  146.  
  147.  
  148.    [/u:X]
  149.  
  150.      Identifies a specific unit, X.
  151.  
  152.      Valid values for X are 0, 1, 2, 3.  The default is zero.
  153.  
  154.      LMS206 locates all CM250 and CM260 host adapters and assigns unit
  155.      numbers based on the order in which each was found.

  157.      This parameter tells LMS206 which BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD line it is
  158.      currently processing.

  163.      Indicates the number of 2500 byte CD frame buffers that should
  164.      be allocated by the LMS206.ADD driver.

  166.      Valid values for Y are 8,..., 26.  The default is 16.  Any value below

  187. 1. If you are not able to access the CD-ROM drive:

  191.       in your CONFIG.SYS file.  For example:

  241.        If you do not have the OS2CDROM.DMD or CDFS.IFS statements in
  242.        your config.sys, you must use the OS/2  2.1 Selective Install
  243.        utility to install these files.

  247. 2.  If the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive under OS/2 is
  248.     different than the drive letter assigned under DOS.
  249.  
  250.     The CD-ROM drive is assigned the next available drive
  251.     letter after drive letters have been assigned for the
  252.     floppy drives and fixed disk drives.
  253.  
  254.     The drive letter is also assigned after any installable block
  255.     device drivers which are located in config.sys before the
  256.     DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD statement (i.e. DEVICE=C:\OS2\VDISK.SYS).

  258.     There is currently no mechanism in OS/2 for assigning a specific
  259.     drive letter for the CD-ROM drive.  The drive letter assignment
  260.     under DOS can be controlled by using the /L switch on MSCDEX.EXE
  261.     command line.
