The source code for Simplex BBS is available for purchase if you are
interested in so doing. The purchase of the source code will help
defray some of the costs involved in the development of this BBS
software, and will allow you to make changes to personalize your BBS.
There are over 55000 lines of C code involved in this project, defined
for both DOS and OS/2. The code was written in Microsoft C 5.10 and
6.00 and is fully ANSI compatible.
There are certain limitations to purchase of the code, to which you have
to agree with by signing and dating below before you will receive the
source code. This is to protect my interests in the project.
The source code costs US $175 payable by check, cashier's check, or money
order to Chris Laforet Software or Chris Laforet. The source code will
be shipped to you on either 360K 5.25" or 720K 3.5" format diskettes.
Once you engineer changes into Simplex, you are allowed to use them for
yourself (or company), however you are not permitted to redistribute
them (unless you arrange for a royalty licence). If you wish to see
your changes incorporated in the distribution version of Simplex, feel
free to send them to Chris Laforet Software with a release permitting
Chris Laforet Software the unrestricted use of your code. Of course,
your other option is to build an external utility which you can distribute
in any form that you wish.
If you wish to use Simplex as the platform for another project such as
a client support system, you must arrange for a royalty licence.
Generally a royalty for the use of Simplex code will run around 10% to
15% of your sales. This can be discussed at greater length if
necessary. Please address a letter requesting a royalty licence to
Chris Laforet at Chris Laforet Software at the address below.
I, the undersigned, agree to use Simplex source code in accordance to the
following:
I will not redistribute Simplex source code to others;
I will not redistribute any changed versions of Simplex unless I make
suitable royalty arrangements with Chris Laforet Software;
I will not use Simplex source code in any of my projects, commercial
or otherwise, unless I make suitable royalty arrangements with
Chris Laforet Software.
