  2. experimental  carcinogenesis synthesized  from several  model systems.
  3. Stages  are defined by  specific biologic and  biochemical alterations
  4. and linked to  genetic changes. The horizontal axis  is an approximate
  5. time line.  The  thickness of  horizontal  lines correlates  with  the
  6. approximate frequency  of progression from one stage  to another. This
  7. serves  as a hypothetical framework for additional biochemical studies
  8. in   the  context  of  stage-specific  consequences  of  a  particular
  9. metabolic alteration.
  10.
