  3. For plan  A, margins  were set  to zero,  and the  scattered radiation
  4. effects  were ignored.  For  plan B,  a  lateral margin  of  5 mm  and
  5. superior or  inferior margins of 7.5 mm,  chosen based on our practice
  6. for  standard  3D  conformal  radiation  treatments,  were  used,  but
  7. scattered radiation  was still ignored.  For plan C, the  margins were
  8. set to zero,  but the scattered radiation was taken  into account. For
  9. plan D, smaller margins of  3 mm laterally, superiorly, and inferiorly
  10. were used,  and scattered radiation was included. Based on target-dose
  11. homogeneity and rectum protection, plan A appears to be the worst  and
  12. plan D the best.
