FIGURE 41.2-5. Fifteen-year survival results for over 4000 melanoma
patients treated at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and the
University of Sydney Melanoma Unit who are subgrouped according to the
four-stage system adopted by the American Joint Committee on Cancer.
The distribution of patients is shown in parentheses. The patients
with clinically localized melanomas (stage I by the original
three-stage system) have been classified into two stages according to
tumor thickness and level of invasion (designated stage I and II).
