FIGURE 41.2-13. Preoperative lymphoscintigraphy in a patient with an
intermediate-thickness melanoma on the left flank. Injection around
the primary site and imaging at 10 minutes show an afferent lymphatic
leading to an in-transit node (outside the classic regional basin)
just above the primary. Another afferent lymphatic is seen draining
into the SLN in the left axilla. Both nodes were marked with an
intradermal tattoo for eventual harvesting and both nodes were found
to contain micrometastatic disease after intraoperative mapping and
selective lymphadenectomy.
