  1. FIGURE 33.4-22.  A computer-controlled multileaf  collimator (MLC) for
  2. photon beam shaping  on a Varian 2100C Linear  Accelerator at Memorial
  3. Sloan-Kettering  Cancer Center.  This particular  multileaf collimator
  4. features 26 pairs  of leaves,  each driven by  a dedicated motor.  The
  5. function of all the MLC motors  is coordinated by a computer according
  6. to preplanned specifications.  The leaves are positioned  to shape one
  7. of the six fields designed for the treatment shown in Figure 33.4-21.
